They're both good wins, you could perhaps argue Bute had a slightly better record than Lacy prior to their fights but only marginally. Depends what you prefer, Froch's big TKO win or Calzaghe's 12 round obliteration. Both had home advantage although Froch was coming off a loss at the time of the fight, you could argue that Calzaghe wasn't in the best possible shape as well as he nearly pulled out of the fight with hand problems. It's hard to compare the two, both great wins.
i didnt get the feeling Bute was as hyped as much as Lacy was but Froch was definately considered an underdog by most i think. I remember Americans in particular stating Lacy would wipe the floor with Calzaghe, that one was more satisfying for me personally but both were great wins.
Opinion not fact. Joe took apart a man for 12 rounds that many said would walk through him. He hardly laid a glove on Joe.
Calzaghe's win was so ****ing good I went out and bought the DVD.. Froch's win was pretty special to was watching it on my feet throwing haye makers in my front room must of looked like a right ****..
Have to go with Calzaghe's annihilation of Lacy. Bute was hyped and yes Froch was the underdog, however we had seen a slip of the armour of Bute in the first Andrade fight. Calzaghe was being completely wrote off and apparently had "no chance" against the 'monster' Jeff Lacy.
froch smashed a 10 year champion undefeated and who also never laid a glove on froch fact, who is still rather relevant who or where is this lacy?
I gotta go with Calzaghe-Lacy. Even though Froch dominated, Bute still made him miss quite a lot in the third and did land a few sweet shots. I just got the impression that Carl lost all respect for him. There's a moment in the second round where Froch just smiles a little, and the whole fight changes after that.
Bute has a better resume than Lacy and was the glaring omission from the Super Six - so much so that some thought the tournament lacked legitimacy without him and that he had to be beat by the winner to decide who the best Super Middleweight was - but, both Froch and Ward had been talking him down in the lead up to the Super Six final and his reputation had been tarnished by accusations that he had avoided the top fighters, turned down participation in the Super Six and hadn't proven himself - especially after the controversy with Andrade. Thus when Froch beat Bute he beat the only big name fighter in the division not to have been in the tournament and reaffirmed himself as one of the best but had people belittle the result in hindsight but saying Bute was never proven at high level and this result just exposed him. Lacy had the higher expectations and a better reputation than Bute leading into his fight with Calzaghe - he was being called a mini-Mike Tyson and being championed as one of the sports hottest prospect and the next dominant force in the division - Calzaghe, meanwhile, was thought a much diminished fighter, someone who had idled away his best years fighting nobodies for a paper title and never challenging himself, and many thought he was there for the taking and that his defeat would signal a shift in power in the division from the old era to the new and from Europe to America. Calzaghe's win was belittled in hindsight due to two things, 1) Lacy was never a force in boxing again after his defeat and never achieved anything of note since, and 2) the fight was so utterly onesided it was easy for people to say how bad Lacy was instead of how good Calzaghe was. In terms of which is the better win, Froch over Bute beats Calzaghe over Lacy because Bute's a more accomplished fighter than Lacy, but in terms of underdog wins - that is, how badly the predictions went wrong - Calzaghe over Lacys beats Froch over Bute because many expressed doubts about Bute but even most of those picking Calzaghe thought Lacy would make a fight of it.
i have both these fights on a par with each other. both were great wins. both were great performances. they're equal. the only difference was that Joe put on a boxing clinic whereas Froch brought the beast out and Mack Daddied him.
