I think realistically both retired due to age and wear and tear.

Calzaghe had, had a 15 year career
Froch had, had a 12 year career

Calzaghes last fight was just before turning 37
Frochs last fight was just before turning 37

Think it was a good time for both

They are 2 great fighters from Great Britain who we can add to the previous greats we have produced at 168.

They both retired at the right time.

Froch already beat Groves who beat Degale. There is always a new up and comer and Degale would of had that shot if he beat Groves.

They tried to make a Froch-GGG fight in Vegas after the first Groves match and HBO turned it down. At the time GGG wasn't PPV material. When they were negotiating for the second time Froch still only wanted a big fight in the US and GGGs team kept offering a fight in the UK because GGG still was not big enough.

As for Ward even though he would of beat Froch if they fought as the first fight was not close (we now know he would not of made weight so who knows what would of happened with 2nd fight) Ward didn't want the fight. Frochs team didn't even know he was stripped and kept saying they would win the purse bid and make Ward fight where they want. Ward kept trying to negotiate other fights with other fighters during this time.

Froch is seriously one of the few fighters you can say didn't duck anyone.

Calzaghe having unified SMW moved up and beat the lineal LHW champ in the middle of some of his best wins. Then he fought another fighter (Hopkins is a marvel and a legend especially due to his longevity but Jones and Calzaghe aren't and did get old) for a farewell fight.

Seriously they both retired at the right time while past prime with their all their faculties so stop the hating. I hope Hopkins retires ( or has he I have been gone from life awhile well at least boxing life sadly) and Jones needs to before something awful happens.

    Calzaghe would have beat:
    Tarver
Hopkins II (Already beat him on home turf)
Froch (Didn't offer anything, Joe out boxes and out works)
Pavlik (easily out boxed and out worked)
Interestingly Bad Glass Jawson is the biggest ? out of all of them. I honestly think if the right Dawson showed up, he could have won.

    Froch on the other hand:

    Loses to GGG
    Loses to Degale
Loses to Ward (Despite the fact that I strongly dislike Andre "Cow" Ward)

I'm real glad Froch avoided getting ruined by Calzaghe as for some of Frochs over zealous fans harping on about Calzaghe getting dropped by 180lbs plus fighters ? Well we will never know how Froch would have got on @ 175lbs as he point blank refuses to have any truck with the entire weight division let alone get in with an out and out legend of the sports in Hopkins in Hopkins own back yard in front of thousands of hostile fans , three home judges and one over protective biased ref first time out at it , **** I remember a shot to **** middleweight in Jermaine Taylor dropping Froch . Y'all musta forgot .

Good point. I forgot that not only is Froch afraid of:

    Ward
    GGG
    Degale

    He is also shook of:

Hopkins. (SOMEONE WHO CALZAGHE BEAT 7 YEARS AGO :rofl)

Froch never moved up a division to fight someone in the top 5 P4P rankings who was considered the undisputed best fighter of his division either...

Probably the guy that was knocked down by two very old men in consecutive fights on his way out. (being quite literally "shook" by Mr. Can't Be Shook himself)
