Calzaghe was willing to go to America to fight Hopkins and Jones but they werent interested.

Kosta was past prime and had only one fight in about 2.5 years, Hattons tactics were at best borderline legal as well. Calzaghe win over a past prime Eubank is just as good as Hattons win over Kosta. Eubank went on to fight for the cw belt and should of got the nod, while Kosta retired which shows which fighter had more left in the tank
Before Maussa fought Hatton he was 3-2 in his last 5 fights and after words he would go on to lose his next two fights, which proves he was clearly on the slide. Also who did he beat to be considered a top fighter? It was around that time that Arum was trying to make a Cotto fight and Hatton chose Cotto left overs instead.

Calzaghe beating Mitchell is equal to Hatton beating Mausa
The Collazo win was debatable as well and Collazo deserved a rematch, which Hatton never gave him
Calzaghe win over a past prime Hopkins more than equal to Hattons win over Collazo
Calzaghe he could only fight who was available to him and he always found a way to win.

There is a video, not sure if it is still online, where JC is being interviewed by a woman and says it would take the crown jewels to get him to fight Jones. Someone found it and put it in a thread some time back.

Can't find the video and I'm not going to spend more time on it but go to the bottom of the article:

"I could probably give Jones a tough fight, probably the best fight he's ever had," said Calzaghe. "But I know my capabilities and unless I got paid the crown jewels I wouldn't want to risk it."

Not sure if I understand the logic here, if Hatton lost two close fights with Pac and May then fair enough, but they were both one sided affairs imo.
Are Pac and May better than anyone on Calzaghe's resume? Of course, but he lost both by ko. Hatton losing to Pac would be like Calzaghe getting blasted out by a guy who started at lw or something like that.

Calzaghe has said a lot of things about Jones, Hatton wanted nothing to do with Witter or Cotto when the fights were their to be made.

I respect Hatton way more. JC is the better fighter but there is no question who I'd rather sit and have a pint with.

I disagree with that statement.

Hatton gets more respect. Sure he got his ass whipped vs. the very best in the world, but he came and he tried.

Its better to be 2 hours early(Hatton) than 2 mins late(Calzaghe)

Both were overrated British produce - as quality as Quorn beef.

Neither fought the best of their times. Hatton wrestled his way to victory where as Calzaghe slapped.

I will say though that their greatest wins were their greatest performances. Kostya was widely tipped to do Hatton but he fought the right fight and I can't take nothing away from him. Calzaghe proved against Lacey he can box and he boxed sublimely against an opponent who was tipped to dominate the division for years to come.

After both those opponents they went on to rob the likes of Hopkins and Collazo of decisions and bathed in their own hype.

Calzaghe by far. Ricky 'hit and hold' Hatton is a Glass Jawed disgrace.

Calzaghe. The man was 1000% committed to boxing and kept at it even when it was clear his hands were peanut brittle. He also respected the sport enough to stay in shape all the time and not trivialize his own career by doing things like blowing up 50 lbs between fights. When it came time to retire, he did it, and that was that.

Which isn't to say I don't respect Hatton, but he accelerated his own downfall with his approach to the sport. Every downtime between fights turned into a Jim Jeffries retirement-style weight gain and loss.

:deal

Calzaghe vs Kessler was a very big fight in Europe though.....

I've gone off Hatton a lot lately, but I respect him WAY more than Calzaghe. He had the stones to take on the best fighters in and around his weight class. Calzaghe was more talented but chose the safe route, and only fought decent fighters once he was 40-0.

Plus, Hopkins beat him.... don't care what anyone says.

14. That is hilariously ironic coming from a guy with Arturo Gatti in his avatar
