Monzon finished his Career on a 82 win streak ... He fought much better opposition and beat them more convincingly ... easy question really
I'd give Monzon the edge based on his ring generalship primarily. While both were great boxers from long range, I see Monzon's ability to dictate the range so well with his jab, height, reach, and sense of spacing giving him the edge there over the shorter Hagler (though Hagler's reach and ability to switch up his stance and style would undoubtedly make it a very interesting, close affair). I think Monzon had the ability to fight on the inside comfortably as well, generally making it a clinch fight when Hagler decided to toughen up the pace rather than allowing Hagler the adequate space needed to work his brutal inside game. Monzon was well versed anywhere in the ring really. I don't know if I'd favor any MW over him over the 15 round distance. Jones Jr. stylistically would be the toughest test IMO, but moreso over 12.
No doubt Pea. Thanks for answering my question dawg. I always respect you're opinion. Marvin is my second favorite fighter of all time. in terms of head to head where do you rate Marvin at MW?
Which LHW great would you compare Calzaghe to, not in style but in overall ability, how do you see Calzaghe/Hagler playing out?
