SImple poll. Joe Calzaghe or Prince Naseem Hamed? Who do you rate higher. OVERALL. all things considered, achievement, opposition, skill etc
Overall - Calzaghe Achievement - Calzaghe Opposition - Calzaghe Skill - Naz was ****ing extreme, but Calzaghe.
calzaghe wasn't a skill fighter. he was simply a volume puncher who fouhg ta bunch of punching bags with the exception of 43 year old hopkins. naz fought better opposition and had more skill than a lot of fighters.
Ignorant people probably think this. Knowledgeable people rate footwork, defensive technique and control of distance very highly, let alone timing. All of these things were Calzaghe assets, it's why despite looking like "a volume puncher", no one was ever able to walk through and end him. Naz lost to the only guy in his resume that compares with B-Hop, Eubank or Kessler.
Naz had great skill...but he beat no one...Calzaghe beat Hopkins...Hopkins proved that he was still game at that age after he beat Pavlik's ass...although Hopkins fought a lot of smaller guys in his career...all his big wins were over welterweights it seems...Hopkins had no business fighting guys like WInky or Trinidad...or de la hoya. Calzaghe is still better than Naz though...Naz lost one fight and quit.
Hang on sec Hopkins Beat Calzaghe Arguably Sakio Bika beat Calzaghe too Arguably if it was a street fight, sakio is hands down winner.
Calzaghe. More fights, better record overall, passed the test when finally stepping up. +Hopkins/Kessler > any Naz win.
WOW!! i cannot beleive this poll is split on this. It's joe by a country mile. Naz lost his marquee fight badly while joe didn't. Granted a still high performing barerra is better than anyone joe ever fought p4p, but the prince only has kelley as a significant win on his resume. Joe had the better career than naz. No disputing that.
what the hell was his defensive technique? smother you with love taps and foul you occasionally? he fought a boxer and got schooled. in his controversial wins, calzaghe won rounds, not fights. who cares if you win 7 close rounds if you get your ass kicked for 5? i give calzaghe credit for crackhead stamina, a great chin, and the ability to adapt. that makes him a good fighter, but naz had more skill. it takes more skill to dodge a punch than it does to throw one. and naz fought better opposition because he fought a variety of styles. calzaghe fought one boxer and 40 something punching bags.atsch
Obviously Joe. Naz is a fraud, Joe is a really good fighter who never stepped it up enough to be called great. Not saying he couldn't have, just that he didn't.
