Pavlik would begin by going on an all-out attack and would force Joe to go backwards. What happens next depends on Joe. IF "Slappy Joe" shows up then Pavlik will show no respect for Joe's power and will stick to his attack. Pavlik has the advantage. But if "Joe the destroyer" shows up Pavlik will switch to his jab and stright right. If that happens Joe has the advantage as he should be able to get around Pavlik's jab and score a lot more hits.

atm Joe would send Pav back to school. It would be a fight that i would love to see but the result can only go one way at the moment and i think it would hurt Pav badly.

give pav a few years and maybe it could be a good fight if he picks up his defensive work and learns more angles and not just coming straight forward with punches. if he does that joe will just beat him with better foot work put him onto the ropes and pepper his face.

That's a decent assement. A southpaw's worst nightmare is a pavlikesque right hand. I think that Pavlik would just need to tag him on the chin a couple times in the early going, and then Joe would become pretty reserved, and Pavlik would leave Slappy with brain damage inside 10 rounds. Pavlik would not have to much trouble finding joe with the right hand. The left hook is not Kelly's best weapon by any means, but he is proficient enough with it to hit calzaghe who is wide open for it.

However, this fight will not happen. Joe spent 7 months calling Kelly out, and now he's talking about the 39 year old Roy Jones. After the first Taylor fight Slappy called Kelly out, and then made a fight with the 43 year old Hopkins. He spent the next 7 months running his mouth about fighting Pavlik, but now he is talking about another nursing home patient! Hopkins is right about one thing for sure; Calzaghe is the biggest conman in boxing. I now consider him even easier to hate than pbf.

Right now on ESB, the no.1 subject his ''whos next for calzaghe''. Pavlik is everyone's no.1, but really, it would be insanely risky for kelly to fight calzaghe, when he still has some Middleweights to handle. Lockett first, then probably abraham later on...

Please don't compare Pavlik to Kessler. One major difference between Calzaghe and Kessler was that Joe was willing to leave it all in the ring. Kessler was not; much of the time he looked like the proverbial deer in the headlights waiting to get run over. Pavlik would not be intimidated like Kessler was. He would make slappy joe work every second of every round. However, it's really a moot point. After 7 months of calling Pavlik out, Joe now appears to want nothing to do with Kelly.

After Lockett ( who's the number one contender for one of his belts ) who is next?

Lorenzo ( the other #1 contender ) is busy on a quest for a different belt. Abraham is booked for at least the next two fights. ( Miranda then the winner of Marquez-Lorenzo ) Winky wants too much money and besides seems to have ticked off Pavlik's management. Sturm isn't showing the slightest interest. Many of the rest are virtual unknowns from Europe.

What are we left with? Rubio? Duddy? Are either of those good match-ups for Pavlik? If Calzaghe shows an interest in fighting Pavlik then I think Pavlik should take it. Who knows how many fights Calzaghe has in him before he retires anyway? If Pavlik waits til later then later may very well turn into never.

There were people claiming Cal would do the sameagainst Hopkins. Guess that thought ended in the first round.

Yeah. I downloaded Jones's last fight. zzzzzzzzzzz............. My feed to the Hopkins/Calzaghe fight was really crappy, though I did see the first round knockdown. Priceless.

Fact. As the body gets older, it takes longer to recover from injury/hurt. That affects training. It also affects thinking. It is harder to make your body do things that will get it hurt. See if you can voluntarily hold your breath till you pass out. If Joe wants to prove he is the best NOW, then he fights some one that is relavent NOW.

Kelly has much better fundamentals than he is given credit for. That will carry him a long way if this fight happens.

I was really torn on last nights fight as to who I wanted to win. Well, this leaves the 'clash of oh's' a possibility. The one weakness I see in Pavlik vs Calzaghe is Cal's ability to adjust. I think that took a couple rounds against Kessler and a little longer against Hopkins. Kelly would need to make a statement early. A little stronger than Hopkins did in round 1. ;)

hermit, you know my feelings on pavlik, but honestly fundamentals aren't going to beat calzaghe, hopkins is the fighter that came closest to it and that was through good honest counterpunching and a great defensive shell, something pavlik does neither of well.all the 'fundamental' boxers have not done well against joe and it really is a bad fight for pavlik.there is no chance his come forward style and slow feet would work well against joe.pavlik should stay in the mw division and clean that out, there isnt a single fighter between 160-168 who i see giving him much trouble other than john duddy:D

i agree pavlik is to 1 dimensional and would not be able to handle joes versitlity of angles/footwork and adaptability to anything pavlik can bring to the ring i would think the fight be similar to the kessler fight.
joe easy 116-112, i even go as far as saying he win by maybe 10 rounds to 2
