Interesting how nearly everyone gave Kessler a massive advantage with the jab (including me) but Calzaghe's speed beat him to the punch.

    Thoughts ?

Yeah but there was people like me, Amsterdam, CHJ who supported your opinion nearly every step of the way.

I felt that Kessler wasnt throwing the jab as much as he should and after round 4 was just clearly fighting at Calzaghe's pace. I also think Kessler's corner was giving him the wrong advice through out the fight.

and take it how it is but im not discrediting Joe one bit.

Amagads clearly a stand up euro orthodox fighter will outjab a southpaw with much faster hands.

If you thought that you arent so bright, but at least you admit it

Calzaghe's jab was quicker and his timing was on tonight. Calzaghe's southpaw stance and movement took away Kessler's jab for much of the fight.

    :good You called it...

I wrote a pre-fight writeup and I expected Calzaghe's movement and stance to play a big factor. I didn't think Kessler's jab would be nearly as effective as usual.

Good call on this fight Blocky

Ashame you took the 6 month bet...

You always back up your picks with quality opinions and evidence. Even if they are unpopular and don't always turn out the way you predicted. Giving quality and well-thought-out supports is a sign of a very good poster.:good

I saw it that way 100% as well. I have to admit I expected Kesslers jab would have been a bit more effective tonight. Credit to Joe!

kessler does have a truely great jab, but all single punches can be nullified to some extent.

i said it many times , kesslers jab is effective because he plants his feet, weight leaning forward onto the left leg, and really rams it out every 3 to 4 secs with great force.

calzaghe has assets of light quick feet/southpaw stance to come around it and then use his quicker feet to get off.

personnly i never expected the fight to be fought from range so much though .

    i didn't.

i thought calzaghe would look to attack more and take the distance away from kessler.

but he beat him at distance as well as up close.

    kessler had his moments though.

that 4th rd uppercut was a peach. :yep
