Toney would beat Calzaghe easy. Today or in their primes. Toney actually fought great fighters in their prime unlike Calzaghe.

Ok, let's say if Toney has an off-night, like he sometimes had, yes, then maybe Calzaghe would slap and run and win some kind of decision due to being the busier man. But no way he would even put one good clean punch on Toney.

But on all the other nights Toney would work out Calzaghes rhythm pretty soon, time him and counter the **** out of him. Toney has absolutely no respect for Calzaghes 'power', and those who think he would just stand there waiting to duck punches and land the occasional counter right hand have no idea how Toney fought back in the day - he was able to cut off the ring and attack effectively, and he would get to Calzaghe no doubt.

A young Toney was a hell of a fighter, dont people understand what kind of ability this guy had? Whats the deal man??!! WTF. Calzaghe vs Toney would be a close affair but there is no way you can say he would OWN Toney. What is the orginator smoking?

I think its a mute point. Calzaghe would never have had the balls to fight a James Toney type. Until they were 40 something.

I would also say fighters Toney faced in their Primes were far better than Joe.

Nunn + Mcculum. Toney had excellent wins over fighters like Reggie Johnson Peak/Prince Charles Williams. who are on par at least with Joes best win Kessler. LOL

Even Toney's later career is far more Legit!!!

Joe decided to fight past prime ATG's Hopkins Toney where as Toney

decided to face Jirov, Sam Peters.....Oh Toney can beat washed up ATG's as well ...ask Holyfield.

Toney is on a different level.

Joe is a great marketing gimmick but an excellent fighter.

    Toney is all fighter!

This is true about Joe bringing light to 168. But it still doesn't do or change anything regarding his overall legacy as a great fighter. He's a truly great talent who never reached a point in his career that matched that talent. He's got a nice shiny "0" behind his record but the depth and substance lacks which is his fault by not seeking the challenges that he could have. Love Joe but I'm met with "what could have been" regarding his overall career.

Look whom he lost agasint. Roy Jones. Maybe he did get a gift decision but no one can deny that Toney in his early yrs got by on his natrual fighting ability and instinct....NOT what he put into his training and in the gym. Toney isn't a talented or physically athletic specimen like Joe or Jones, but what he's able to do in the ring..naturally made him one of the best and gave him the ATTITUDE to want to face the best. Joe didn't have that attitude to seek any and all challenges like Toney, nard and Jones did during their prime years. His best wins were not over very old fighters. Nunn and Jirov were in their primes brah and that is only TWO fighters I'm noting. I'm not saying Joe isn't Great for his talent and skills, but his resume doesn't match his greatness in regards to his skills. Bottom line.

Ahhh, another mariancobretti gem for the list.

Sam Peter is a higher level of opponent than Bernard Hopkins.

    He just never fails :rofl

Toney doesn't even come in shape for his fights, the guy is a clown and his reign at heavy is that of a clown. All he did was talk trash and call everyone out only to run away when they officially answered and contacted his team. The guy is an elite fighter no doubt but at heavy he's nothing but a joke.

The fatso needed steroids to compete/LOSE(that was a ****ing robbery) against Rahman and go life and death with Batcheldor(or whatever) who also was on roids in a 10 rounder.

In his last fight he fought Butterbean's uncle and was rocked by a single shot before scoring a knockout.
