.......the difference has been his ability to adapt and take it to another level. the middle rounds v kessler are the perfect example of this where he switched gameplan and ran away with it.
They are clearly delusional. Bernard Hopkins barely threw or landed anything all night. It happens fairly often. People think Manny beat Juan Manuel Marquez in their rematch, but Marquez landed more shots and won his rounds clearly. Delusional spectators.
Calzaghe will most likely fight Jones at 175lbs, rather than move back down to 168lbs to face Pavlik. Jones is a shot-fighter now, way past it! Pavlik, on the other hand, is much more dangerous than Jones, in his prime at only 26. If Calzaghe wants to enhance his legacy, fighting & defeating Pavlik would be more adviseable than facing a faded force such as Jones. However, Joe has stated its all about money at this late stage of his career, so if he can earn more for fighting Jones, I reckon he'll take that fight. Big reward, less risk, etc. Pavlik is the sterner opposition out there. Surely, a fight between Pavlik-Calzaghe would be a high-earner for Joe? On the matter of Calzaghe saying Pavlik might not want to box him at this stage - Kelly has stated he would go to Wales to fight Joe, so long as he's treated fairly!
They were close fights, the Marquez fight being closer than the Hopkins fight, but there was still a deseved winner in each fight.
in the article he says That is a fight that I think can be made, but I am not sure if Pavlik really wants to face me at the moment. He would have little to gain because I believe I would definitely beat him, with respect to Gary Lockett I would be a step-up too far for Pavlik. He's got the world at his feet at middleweight or super middleweight and will want to build his unbeaten record, rather than stepping up at least one weight category to face me. confidence from joe there! he also says he has hurt his hand in the hopkins fight which is surprising as he trying to keep it quiet
taking it to another level against kessler involved sitting on the outside whilst jabbing kessler silly and taking mikkel's own jab away from him and digging in every now and then and throwing flurries to the body. claiming he was just going in with brainless flurries of shots is ****ing stupid and quite frankly degrading of a superb showing of joe at his best. hopkins countered calzaghe brilliantly in the first 3/4 rounds but once joe started to see that right hand coming he became harder for hopkins to score on. it's all well and good sitting from the outside shouting... "look he's open to the counter" but it seems to be a completely different issue once you set foot in the ring with him.
that's exactly how i saw it im still laughing at the punch stat numbers to be honest there is no way calzaghe landed 230 punches on him...most of his punches were ineffective flurries catching arms and back hopkins was more precise and accurate for me and in a fight with not much to choose from i went with clean punching rather than ineffectvie aggression
I'm glad because this will be a closer fight than Pavlik - Calzaghe would've been. Jones even at his age is a better fighter than Pavlik and I am gonna put money on him to beat Calzaghe.
"It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we will face each other [Joe and Kelly], but I think Jones is the right fight for me at the moment." Doesnt sound like Joe is ducking anyone to me. More - let me milk the Jones cow then we'll talk. Sounds like a good plan for a fighter approaching retirement
