onceagain - Sounds like you have a bit of previous with FRKO , to me as an impartial onlooker seemed a bizarre insult without logic, call it what you like.

 All in good fun mate....if I remember correctly we agree on a great many things :deal We just support our favorite fighters, despite the fact that we are fans of both, nothing wrong with favoring one over the other. I'm not knocking you for your pick or knocking Joe(until provoked)...It's easy to envision victory for either fighter.....As I've said before this is more of a fantasy matchup than anything as it's been stated quite definitively that Pavlik will remain a MW long after Joe retires as an undefeated LHW Champion:deal Which is fine by me as nobody really wants to see 2 of their favorite fighters square off...Cheers:good

"Crush"? That's an interesting one. The fact is I stick up for Joe calzaghe when people like yourself post hateful comments about great boxers. I'd do the same for any great fighter, only difference is currently I have Joe Calzaghe threatening a chicken in my avatar, which I think is a slightly humourous picture.

There doesn't seem to be much logic in arguing with you, though, and I feel I am wasting my time when I could be doing something more productive. I haven't actually seen you present a good argument yet or show the ability to hold a decent conversation without resorting to personal attacks on the forum members.

I think my point is . . . it isn't easy to see Pavlik beating JC unless you envisage Pavlik knocking JC out. Why would we think this is going to happen ?

Otherwise its JC all over him - Pavlik too predictable and slow , JC better head movement , faster punch in quick combinations , proven chin at the weight etc etc

Am I right ? Or is there something else I'm missing ? Fair enough, if so , I just can't see it.

I don't think so. Pavlik is very much more of a banger who comes out with long, straight shots and Calzaghe is a lighter hitter but much more versatile and with far greater boxing I.Q. and ring generalship... That would be no toe-to-toe slugfest but more of a fast paced strategical match with some punch exchanges. Calzaghe and Hopkins is a better fight from the styles and boxing know-how perspective.

OK, it's cool with me, RealIzm. No hard feelings. Thanks for explaining and clarifying how you see it.

you're welcomed to attempt to find a single post where i've said anything negative about Calzaghe. i think he's a great boxer and he deserves most of the praise he gets... now Hatton on the other hand is a different story.

OK man, let's drop it. It's not like I go round looking up members' posts to try and prove them wrong. Though it may be a shock to some, I have better things to do!

While I agree Joe is faster it doesnt make Pavlik slow and as far as comparisons go Joe isn't much faster than Taylor if at all....now as I've stated previously as far as defense Pavlik has the advantage as Joe leaves himself wide open throwing wide punches....I see Pavlik taking advantage of this... and while Joes chin is solid so was Mirandas....before Kelly crushed it
This isn't Mitchell either :-( mate
In my opinion Joe would need power to befuddle Pavlik and he doesnt have it:deal
Being awkward and throwing a shitload of punches(mainly for points) I feel won't cut it

Okay , fair enough - still can't see it for the following reasons.

Pavlik would be moving up a weight , his power didn't look all that at 166 - I can't work out the assumption he will hurt JC.

Miranda is a middleweight and bringing up the Mitchell flash knockdown is dubious, JC was up at 3 and proceeded finish off a guy who has never been stopped. He's been down once in another fight, thats 2 in 44. Assuming Pavlik will finish him off where others haven't is illogical even if you take the view his opponents haven't been all that.

Calzaghe looks fast as Taylor, I didn't put the speed gun on the TV like , so no point asking exactly how fast etc , and would be a lot busier ( circa 1000 punches normally) , when Taylor stepped it up he connected with Pavlik but you could tell he was weary of Pavliks power.

Head movement and good defense up close has kept JC's nose from being broken in 44 fights, why does Pavlik a straight down the line fighter with good power suddenly start to connect where others have failed.

'Being awkward and throwing a shitload of punches(mainly for points) I feel won't cut it' - I don't agree with a poor generalisation of JC skills, he had a knockout ratio similar to KP's until his hands started messing up, again you could say it was against lesser opposition but while he may not do one punch knockouts he still obviously carries some power.
