I know his hand speed and footwork get all the love, but I actually re watched some of his fights recently, and seems as though he had very little trouble mauling around thicker, more muscular fighters in the clinches.

Obviously superior footwork can play a role in that, but Joe never seemed to shy away from the tussling and squabbling and I would say once he had his opponent a bit gassed he would really start to manhandle them later in the fights.

Kind of adds a new dimension I hadn't picked up on as much before.

I'll say this, I have become a huge fan of calzaghe and his style over the years. I still dont know how anyone didn't enjoy watching him get down.

And of course the showboating! His antics were right up there with the best of them!
And one huge difference: a lot of fighters turn to showboating when nothing else is working and they're afraid to engage, which is why it gets such a bad rap.
But calzaghe showboated when it mattered, he straight up clowned on dudes, but only after he hurt or dazed them. I really thought it was marvelous tbh

He definitely was a strong guy and I agree that his physical strength is somewhat underrated. I remember reading that his walk around weight was between 190 and 200 pounds which is pretty big for a super Middleweight.

One other undrated aspect of him was his power. A lot of casuals talk about how he is a slapper but honestly that is by design. He had very bad hands and developed that style out of necessity.

Another thing is when you have handspeed like he did the last thing you would want to do is sit down on your power especially when your hand speed is such and advantage.
