This is not a Calzaghe is a bum thread. He is obviously not. However he annoys me (in addition to not having any other variation in speech apart from 'at the end of the day') with his whiney delusional **** about 'not having anything else to achieve in boxing' apart from coming to 'The States'. He trotts this refrain in interviews as rapidly as he slaps. What the **** is he talking about? He never fights outside his own country, fights only mandatories from the least recognised boxing organisation (WBO), for 10 years, and now considers going to 'The States" the only thing left to achieve? He has had 2 notable fights! And he is 36! Now he's going to go to America and beat up a 44 year old Bernard Hopkins followed by a hoplessly Shot RJJ and retire in glory? Shut the **** up! He may well be 'underrated', but it is his own fault. No amount of obfuscating or lying can divert attention from the fact that he's spent 10 years feeding his family fighting bums out of Wales and never had the courage or fortitude to seek out elite fighters until 35 years of age. Rather than America being the only challenge left, Joe's challenge is just beginning.
He fought in England loads of times, in an anti-welsh enviorment (Eubank, Reid) which is more than Hopkins trip to Ecuador.
it is brave when a Welshamn fights an Englishman in England, you would have no idea, much more hostile than anything the US fans could muster for Calzaghe.
There is no pleasing some people. Even if he beats Pavlik or Dawson after Hopkins you'll still complain.
I just think Americans have some sort of a bee in their bonnet, with another country having a decent fighter. We just all know that Americans are so amazing at absolutely everything, whilst everybody else is useless. How would you feel if you read a number of P4P lists, which actually have 5 Brits in the top 25?
Just because Brits get drunk and abusive at sports festivals doesnt mean that they are any more passionate. Hopkins fought DLH and Tito, two hugely popular fighters in curcumstances much more hostile than Calzaghe has ever been in. And he was fighting boxers of a higher standard than Calzaghe has ever seen on TV. Try thinking a little before tossing out assinine comments.
Are you sure? And a Welsh fighter taking on an English fighter in England is in for a lot of hostility.
