His resume isnt littered with quality fighters but is it as bad as it looks generally Chris Eubank, Richie Woodhall, Charles Brewer, Robin Reid, Byron Mitchell, Omar Sheika, Jeff Lacy, Sakio Bika, Mikkel Kessler and Bernard Hopkins over a 11 year string of dominating wins over super middle contenders including bums in a bum division Avoided by big names but has done his share of avoiding as well Beats 2 undefeated highly regarded fighters past his own prime aged 33 onwards Wins WBO, C, A, IBF BELTS, RING SUPER MIDDLE/LIGHT HEAVY BELTS and 21 title defences Beats P4P mainstay and #1 light heavy hopkins in us Fights abroad in US, Germany and Denmark unlike Hopkins Then theres the in ring craft Roy Jones Jr is a meaningless opponent unless he turns up Unless he cancels retirement and fights Dawson or Pavlik or Kessler 2, he deserves to have his career doubted. Any thoughts, please dont start the usual crap
Can people on this thread put together an argument without resorting to bias, ignorance, humour, abuse and idiocy. A little seriousness and objectivity would be good Im not unequivocally right, lets actually debate instead of all the underlying aggressiveness and pride
History will always frown upon his style of fighting but he was/is incredibly effective. Alot of people let their displeasure of his style cloud their judgement at times, because in reality not many fighters would ever have beaten him....... due to his awkwardness and workrate, allied to a sharp brain. His resume is good.....not great...but good.
Roots I had often pondered Calzaghe's resume. So I spent an afternoon doing a little research: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92045&highlight=calzaghe+proper+breakdown My conclusion? His resume is weak. Not decent, not ok, but weak, considering he has been a world champion for 11 years now. From 1997 til 2006 (9 years), his standard of opposition was SHOCKING. His resume does not give a true reflection of his talent at all, and so his legacy in 20 or 30 years time will not be what it could have been. IMO.
It's a good resume. Not outstanding, but enough solid wins along with the ability he has always displayed to put him in the top 25 of the last 20 years or so.
**** resume's. the guy is a good fighter end of. who gives a **** if he didnt fight mighty mouse or captain ****ing invincible. he is the best super middle period. give the man his dues.
**** off. ottke was the biggest fraud in boxing. that man had no power and had more gifts than santa. watch the robin reid fight for a good example. daylight robbery. your boy was ****.
Except Hatton fought the fighter ranked no.3 pound-for-pound in the world in his world title shot, whereas Calzaghe fought a man who had had 2 exhibition fights in 2 years since losing his last fight against world-ranked opposition, ie a man in semi-retirement who only got the shot because of his name and past glories. And Hatton chased the pound-for-pound no1 of his time and went up in weight to face him when they were both close to their peak (Mayweather). Calzaghe did not do the exact to Jones Jr. He fights him only when he is 40 and all his attributes (especially chin) have severely declined.
