If Joe beat Roy then his resume may be be better in terms of ATG status: - Roy best wins: Toney (prime), Hopkins (green) & Hill (lightly past) - Joe best wins: Kessler (prime), Jones (past), Hopkins (lihgtly past) beside that (assuming Roy fought plenty of cab drivers and Joe plenty of sheep sheares) their quality of opposition is pretty the same (Tate, Piacenza, McCallum, Griffin, Johnson, Hall, Gonzales, Kelly, Woods, Ruiz, Tarver vs .... Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Veit, Brewer, Mitchell, Ashira, Bika, Lacy). What do you think?
Are you high? There resume isn't close at all. Roy's is light years ahead of Joe's. Kessler has done nothing of note since getting beat by Joe much like Lacy. Hopkins close fight that could have gone either way against a 43 year old fighter. Jones is shot and Joe should get no credit for it especailly when everyone knows a prime Roy would beat Joe by wide UD. Roy's win over Toney is better than anything on Joe's resume.
Indeed, not close at all. Don't forget that Richard Hall just KTFO Byron Mitchell last year, either. :deal
There's not that much between them but Jones is better. The fact that he is a 4 weight champion has to go for him as well.
I dont understand why people always say BHOP was green when he fought RJJ. Was RJJ prime in that fight? I dont think so. They had both fought at a similar level and number of fights before they met in the ring. RJJ may have been slightly more developed as a boxer but so what. you could make this argument for when most boxers fight each other.
are you high, kessler has won back a title and is on the look out for some big fights, after you lose your biggest fight nobody comes back in against another top p4p fighter straight away. If kessler doesn't fight a big name in his next couple of fights then you can say something until then :-(
Form the perspective it may be true. Both Kessler and Lacy may improve adding legacy to Calzaghe resume. Jones may fight Hopkins again and lose which show also in a different perspective Joes win over Hopkins (no matter close or controversial).
I agree Toney is a bigger accomplishment then Kessler, but if you honeslty don't think Kessler is an a Elite fighter your crazy, he will rule the 168 division for years to come, and if you don't agree, who do you think is gonna beat him? I think the win over Kessler killed the argument Calzaghe needs to fight a young prospect before he is done. The thought he needed to fight Pavlik was a joke, Kessler is way better then Pavlik. Also I think a lot of the people who make comments regarding Calzaghe's career havent even gone back to watch some of his earlier fights, and most of the same people have seen all of RJJR's fights, nothing should be taken away from Calz. Also i want to address the people who feel they are patriotic for rooting for RJJR, this isn't the cold war and its not an american vs a russian, your not patriotic.
Jones's best 5 wins are Toney, Hopkins, Ruiz at heavyweight, Tarver, Griffin, McCallum or Hill. Calzaghe's are Hopkins, Kessler, Lacy, Mitchell and probably Eubank. For me, a win over Jones wouldn't break Calzaghe's top 5 because Jones has been shot to pieces for 4 years. At a push, it would displace his win over Eubank, which is absurdly overrated. Eubank had been in semi-retirement for 2 years and took the fight at short notice. But no matter if you take a win over a shot Jones or a semi-retired Eubank as Calzaghe's 5th best win, I still think Jones's are better. So I disagree. Jones's resume is better than Calzaghe's.
Like I said done nothing. He won a vacant title against a blown up 154 pounder who he dwarfed in the ring and just beat another no-hoper. He needs to step up but like I said Kessler's mental toughness needs to be questioned.
