Who would make him lose his 0? Hopkins?? na we've already had that fight and Hopkins lost Taylor? Dawson? pavlik = NO CHANCE!!!! None are in Joes league, none bring enough to the table But because there American we'vew got to think that they are at Joes level
If Hopkins had'nt disrespected Calazghe so much in the run up to the fight and then fought so dirty Ive no doubt he would have got a rematch, BUT HE DOESNT DESERVE ONE. he fought dirty, was boring and disrespectful. It was uneasy on th eye and Joe still managed to win the fight NOW MOVE ON
Name them. And then argue why a fighter with more talent and a deserved higher place on an ATG list (Roy) managed to miss.... Nunn Jackson Eubank Benn Collins McClellan Hop rematch when Hop was any good. McCallum But it isnt even mentioned. Calzaghe missed... Hop (Beat's the P4P No3 version 6 years after Hop pulls out of proposed fight, not the one who drew with Marcado) Roy Tarver Ottke Johnson Beyer Outside of Roy and Hop, the ones he missed were no better than the ones he faced, and in Beyer and Johnson's(SMW) case, worse. Can you say the same for Roy. Great fighter, great career, could have been better, Lock for first Ballot HOF and a comfy place in the lower end of a Top 100 ATG lists. Thank you very much and goodnight.
You actually sound like Joe there.... He won a close SD against Hopkins....And in Boxing you have to FIGHT them before you say they don't have a chance :good
Mayweather is easily the greater fighter, and leaves fewer questions. That is why he was rated 2-3 spots ahead of JC pound for pound, when both were at their highest rank.
The rating of his career has been done to death on this forum, but for the record, 85-90 ATG, a higher level of talent than accomplishments, a threat against anyone in his weight range, very adaptable, excellent all round boxer. The kncok against him will be the length of time before he got another title holder, it is hard to get the really big fights i.e Jones, Hopkins, but if he had 2/3 of the SMW belts around 03 it surely would have happened sooner. Probably good enough to fight on and beat the likes of Dawson but the hunger seems to be gone. For me since Kessler he has been looking to retirement, Hopkins and Jones were money fights. Of course some wanted him to keep fighting until he lost.
Any converstion regarding Joe Calzaghe's place in boxing history will always have the imposing question of "What If" looming in the vicinity. Too many, he was simply a wasted talent; despite his victories in the last 2 or 3 years, he did waste nearly a decade of his prime without fighting a single top 5 fighter. He will probably sneak in to the Hall of Fame, with today's lowered standards, but he could potentially have been more: a top 50 ATG, a multi-weight champion, a first ballot Hall of Famer. These are out of the question now.
Sorry I couldnt respond to this sooner, I was out for a while. I dont think your that bright if you think you can compare Joe's resume to that of Sanchez and Tyson. Joe's look like **** next to theres. Just go look the up and tell me different.
