Most defintly. Joe`s talented theres no denying that. As much as i hate him he had way too much for a rookie like Lacy who picked up a vacant belt. In addition Laceys win over Reid was meaningless. Reid was shot and it was a crude exhibition of raw and overrated power.

At a real push I dare say Joe could have faced these few names (in 15 years) - had he beaten them, well an ATG for sure ... just how very high..

Prime Roy Jones jr, Prime Bernard Hopkins, Glen Johnson, Antonio Tarver, Chad Dawson, Kelly Pavlik, Jemain Taylor, Winky Wright, Sven Ottke (early unification, Ottke champ in ninety eight).

Yes he is - and a good live fight. What is your point? That live fights should not be made or if one is made the opponent has to be made out to be the resurrection of Christ.

If JOe fights him after Jones, big deal; its just a competitive fight. A LH former SM against a middle. Pavlik is no prime ROy Jones, Hopkins, Toney. JOe missed his boat, unless Kessler or lacy go on to do great things - or he fights Pavlik or Dawson and they go on to make a great noise.

The bottom line is that Pavlik is an interesting live fight - that should be made; the ROy Jones fight is not.

Hopkins was waiting on Trinidad and only then in 2001 did he become a big name. After that he was just waiting on DLH and making his record 20 title defences. He wasnt interested in calzaghe until he lost to Taylor and moved up.

Roy Jones wasnt in the least bit interested.

Toney was basically a journeyman from 1995 - 2002. He lost to Thadzi in 1997 so would Calzaghe get alot of credit for being the next man to beat the fatty?

Ottke was running scared and wouldnt even mention the name Calzaghe.

Winky is too small above his natural Light-middle

Glen Johnson very nearly happened before the Lacy fight...but injuries ko'd it.

Tarver...well Joe beat the man who beat Tarver.

Bottom line is...Calzaghe only became an attraction after Lacy stepped up to the plate.

I heard Joe comment on Steve Bunce's boxing hour that 'Pavlik is over-rated' and 'a media creation' .... I thought that was a little bit like the pot calling the kettle black. Joe is somewhat of a 'Warren' creation, before Lacy he fought 2/3 bums a year and he would never fight in America .... For him to moan about not making enough money or getting enough respect for being a champion for so long is a joke, anybody who knows anything about boxing at the highest level knows that you have to fight in America to prove your worth and to get the big bucks .... Hatton and Naz could have fought they're whole career in this country and stayed unbeaten but they took a chance .... Calzaghe chose the WBO - Eubank route which was to screw the british public for years fighting nobodies and then moaning about his pay .... If he'd of faced Roy Jones 10 years ago he would have been annihilated, there is absolutely no argument to be made for Joe beating Roy in this period, and also if he had faced Bernard Hop a few years ago he would have been beaten too ......... Joe believes his own hype, the only guy he's fought with any credentials is a 43 year old Hopkins who very nearly and some people say DID beat him, i myself had Joe winning because of Hopkins not working enough but Joe still got outboxed, Hopkins controlled the fight and out skilled Joe on the back foot, the vegas judges scored for Joe's in-effective aggression .. I respect Joe as a great domestic fighter, the questions will always be there about how good he actually was in that 168 to 175 divisions ..... Lets be honest Joe doesnt survive against stellar Light Heavies, (prime) RJJ, Archie Moore, Michael Spinks and Bob Foster .... And let me throw John Conteh in aswell for that matter
