He probably knows Hopkins is going to whoop Kelly's ass so he will see no need for a fight with him in the future.

Let me guess u think Pavlik is going to beat Hopkins right?

And where are the responses for Joe 's claim that they made two offers to fight Pavlik after the Lacy fight and both times they were turned down ?Where is the uproar about that ?

Pavlik is gonna whoop old ass Hopkins and retire him for good. Pavlik wasnt ready back then and is now. He wants the fight but Joe is gonna retire.

Ditto to all that. Whenever a guy chooses to retire while he's on top, there's ALWAYS some young turk he's going to be accused of being afraid of. With Steve Collins it was Calzaghe himself. With Lennox Lewis it was Vitali (and had he retired a year or two earlier it would probably have been Grant or Tua). With Calzaghe it looks like being Pavlik and had he retired a couple of years earlier it would have been Kessler or Lacy. I'm using mainly British examples here as it's tough to think of two many fighters over the years who have gone out on top, but you get the picture. If the fighter himself decides he doesn't need it anymore, the fans should respect that choice.

The typical comment of a stereotypical American who doesn't even realise the sport exists outside his own window and the type that gives a lot of knowledgeable US fans an unfair bad name. Agree about the fight though it's basically a retirement payday and will have no bearing on how his record is judged.

Joe is gonna leave a massive hole in British boxing but he has accomplished everything he needed to and deserves to retire when he see's fit, he is 36yrs FGS and he is still sharp and quick, but cant go on forever....

If he faces Pavlik and beats him its gonna be 'he's ducking Abraham', where do you draw the line, there is always gonna be guys like Pavlik, there arent many like Joe.

I hope he has the oppurtunity against Roy to sit down on his punches a bit and feed him one of those levelling left hooks, but you haters wouldnt know anything about that as watching Joe for the massive period of 3yrs hasnt given up such sights.....

    Roll on November !

More like "Old legend slapper" Calzaghe -- Please, Calzaghe and the word Killer don't belong in the same sentence... He is a soft throwing *****, and dances around like a moron to win stupid decisions.... only beat a 43 year old Hopkins because hopkins tired and gave the fight away to workrate.

He has only two genuine knockouts in 45 or so fights. That is one of the worst KO records in boxing history (among established boxers), and the worst ever for a boxer of that stature in history. On it's own you can brush that stat aside, but when the guy is known universally known to lack power it adds up. Calzaghe wins by flurry, he is not, and has never been a KO artist.
