So if he fought the Gary Lockett's of the world for the next 5 years while Abraham beat the top challengers, he'd still be undisputed? No. Abraham is disputing Pavlik's claim as being the best middleweight in the world.

No he ain't. Abraham disputes him for a start. Let Kelly get rid of him and then look at the top guys a weight up

I'm curious if Joe or any posters on here have asked themselves the very relevant question "What if Joe Calzaghe loses to Roy Jones Jr?"
    Then what?
He obviously won't retire undefeated, but will he fight again?

On a side note Joe has done a good job of being an aural intimidator in most of his fights. I have a feeling Joe will be the intimidated one when he fights Roy, who unlike Hopkins is coming to fight not ruin a fight.

    Your thoughts

This is a classic of Americans overhyping their fighters (and dare I say it, white fighters) and then you have the hypocrisy and cheek to accuse Europeans of the exact same thing. Joe Calzaghe has been saying this will be his last fight since before the Kessler fight and ...

    1. He will get more money for fighting RJJ than he would fighting Pavlik in his last fight.
    2. I'm making the trip to NY at geat expense to see this fight because it's RJJ, I wouldn't do the same for Pavlik.
    3. He already beat a bigger, tougher Pavlik in Kessler.

The same people who think Pavlik should get a straight shot at Calzaghe are probably the same ones who don't think David Haye should get a straight shot at Wlad, why's that?

Because Pavlik beat Jermaine Taylor and then followed him up with Gary Lockett?

He has said himself that "He wouldn't forgive himself if he ended his career with a loss"

Who knows, maybe if he did lose (which is NOT out of the realm of possibility) he could clamour for a fight with Pavlik:think Most likely Pavlik wouldn't want the fight then, so that leaves either Woods or Froch i'd imagine.

Hopefully for Joe the WBO keeps his 168lb title in safe keeping till after the Jones fight:yep
If Joe does lose to Jones and depending on HOW he loses to Jones if he does not sure Joe would want to pick Pavlik
If he does lose though I will be hoping for a Calzaghe-Taylor fight, and for the record Taylor IS quicker than Joe, the difference is surprisingly clear after watching both of their recent matches.
I wish Joe and Roy the best of luck, it will be much more exciting than the Slopkins fight, thats for sure:yep

Maybe. I get the feeling that Joe is actually starting to realise what he's been missing out on all these years. 4 big fights in less than 3 years, it really is a shame that he's left it till the tail end of his career to make the most of his talent. He could of been fighting on HBO PPV years back. Either way, he's made his bed and he can lie in it.

I think Lance-Uppercut put it best "He's got the weakest claim to greatness in recent history" or something along those lines.

And sadly I don't think it's entirely Joe's fault, its Frank Warren milking his fighters and staying cocklocked to the WBO

As I've written before it would be a well-earned retirement. In general it is ridiculous to call a belt holder who has fought several mandatories a bum. JC is definitely not a bum.

Can we all agree now that the next opponent of KP has to be AA? In my opinion this fight has to come...it would be very disappointing if KP decides to move up without having fought AA before.

I wondered about that, myself, but if he loses to Jones, do you really think he want's any part of Pavlik after that? He doesn't want any now. Maybe if Lockett hasn't retired by then....:D

    I agree with everything
Also I really like the idea of cleaning out 160, that means Sturm too:yep who I think presents just as many problems for Pav as AA does. Sturm is slick......then again the more I think about it if Sturm hasnt fought AA yet and I doubt he'll be clamoring for a fight with Pavlik anytime in the forseeable future:(

Huh? First, there is some indication that Joe was offered a HUGE payday to fight Pavlik. Everyone is SAYING he makes more fighting Jones, but I've seen NO numbers to back that up? Again with the Pavlik hasn't earned a shot. Then why was Joe calling him out? You do ANY reading?

I said all along that the time for this fight was NOW before Joe vacated all of his belts. That is why I don't see it happening now. Especially if he loses. Jones made it sound as if the fight would be at 168 for both belts.

Yeah. CLAIMS he did. Seems you can't take Joe at his word when he speaks. Something to do with Lockett....:-(
