I bought Boxing News the other day and Calzaghe was asked if he resents the fact that he didn't get to fight Jones years ago, when he was in his prime. He said something along the lines of: "No. He was much better then and I would have had more a chance of losing. Plus the money would have been crap!" Essentially Calzaghe's saying he's glad that he's going in with a great old fighter who's ass he hopes to kick now that it's easier. Plus, he gets a bigger cheque? This adds fuel to the fire for those who say his resume is suspect and that he avoided the big fights until the time was right. I think the Lacy win is a little over rated based on the fact that "Left Hook" hasn't done anything since. Kessler was a great performance but he was lucky to get the decision against B-Hop. On close examination of his other fights there's Eubank (weight drained and under prepared), Reid (who almost beat him) and Woodhall (who couldn't throw a straight right hand). Sheika and Brewer are decent but the rest suck ass. Not the greatest record when we're talking about a pound for pound entrant is it? And now the quote above is indicative of a man who feels he's taking a liberty and that is really sad. De La Hoya takes a lot of flack for being business first but I've never heard him say anything like that in my life. I hope that Jones kicks his ass but can't see it happening! Maybe Joe should call out Roberto Duran next! As you can see I'm not impressed!
you mustn't have heard. calzaghe is a slapping useless girl who has only ever beaten small children and old women. i know this because i read it on ESB .
calzaghe isn't much younger than jones and i fell if calzaghe is just doing it for the money he is going to be in big trouble because roy definitly sees this fight has the fight that will stamp his legacy.
Jones wouldn't fight Calzaghe for pretty much the same...plus they had different weights then,,,2-3 years apartin age aint much...Joe is no spring chicken, and this is just an excuse thread to pull on Joe and his fans, should Roy lose:twisted:
Well what did he say? I said "something along the lines of" Use the exact quote???? I'll post it tonight!
Oh well in smart ass! Lets compare the validity of a statement in an official interview to what's stated in a forum. You didn't eat a lot of brain food when you were growing up did you?
Are you actually implying that RJJ ducked Calzaghe?:rofl Calzaghe wasn't regarded as a B-level fighter, because he was European...He was regarded up until recently as a B-level fighter, because he hadn't FOUGHT ANYBODY. In fact, the best you have, is to talk about a past his prime Eubank and Byron Mitchell??? I mean c'mon... I'm tired of all this talk about how Americans look down on Europeans. I don't...I look at things from the perspective of accomplishment. And up until recently, Calzaghe had accomplished almost nothing, other than keeping an undefeated record against C-level competition. Say what you want, but Lacy is not a fighter that should be a top win for a supposed HOF-level fighter like Calzaghe. Kessler is untested against any top level fighter other than Calzaghe, and 95% of Kessler's wins are against complete bums. Hopkins was 43 when Calzaghe fought him, and he barely beat Hopkins in a fight that made Calzaghe look ordinary in terms of skill. Now, he's fighting an almost 40 year old shell of the ATG that RJJ once was. If you think RJJ was scared of Joe Calzaghe, you should stop criticizing Americans of being snobs, and look in the mirror. ****, check yourself into a mental institution, because if you believe that crap, you're probably suffering from dementia...
what would you do, wouldn`t you be happier with an easier fight for more money???because i would. he is just being honest.
