It reeks of cherry-picking and cowardice, to be frank.

cowardice isn't right. the man fights for a living.

but lack of respect and self-respect for finding out how good he could have been and sugar-coating it by fighting aged legends and trying to sell it to the british public is fair.

There are also quotes by Calzaghe where he has said that he would fight Roy and win an i'm not talking about the last year. In fact someone has posted it on here before, the point being that boxers talk all sorts of **** so its no point getting your knickers in a twist about it!
RJJ and Calzaghe have both said in the lead up to this fight that they have wanted to fight each other for years. You believe what you want to believe all boxers spout ****!

It does. I mean, it clearly does. His fans can make excuses all day long, unfortunately the evidence is clear.

what he said is 100% true. I don't think even his biggest fans disagree that he has more chances of winning today than in Roy's prime. And i don't think anyone disagrees that he is making more money for it today.

    So basically, he is right.

So, using your logic here, it's Joe's fault Hopkins backs out in 2002 because because he apparently wasn't the name Carl Daniels, nobody (Bernard took a year off between these two fights), and Hakkar were, but then when Joe's on the other side of things, going for a money fight with a name fighter, it's his fault for not taking a (possibly) harder fight for less money and recognition?

Calzaghe could and should of fought a better calibre of opponent through his career. Also fighting in the states earlier in his career, aorund the 2001 mark would of helped no end. But even if he did that, there would still be NO gurantee that he would of got the fights with Hopkins and Jones.

Hopkins couldn't agree to fight Jones despite the onus being on him to make the fight seeing as Jones was no.1 in the world and had already beaten Hopkins.

Jones never chased down DM despite DM being the LH champion. Jones simply picked up his titles that were stripped from him. Both fighters are to blame for this, i'm not putting all the blame on Jones.

So if those fights didn't happen. How would Calzaghe make them happen?

But if you think about it the comment really works against itself....If he wasnt offered a fight how would he have known what kind of money it would have been for back then, and what does that say about Joe that he didnt take the fight then when he admitts in one interview that he isnt sure that he could have won, but know he does take the fight when he is sure that he can win??? Maybe Joe's mouth will be his worst enemy when it comes to his place in history..

with the examples you're using it should highlight how easy it could have been for joe to get his defining career fight.

yes it's joe's fault and we seem to agree on the poor level of opposition joe would have to cut through to get that fight.

    so why didn't he?

If you don't know grammar then it doesn't surprise me that you don't know anything about boxing.
