All right, this is a good conversation, nice to come across an intelligent and civil ESB'r once in a while.:good Continuing on your theory though, do believe Roach would do this for "stage" purposes, and also thereby give up his JOB as Mr. Hopkins trainer, and the GLORY that would come with a win over a 4-1 favorite red hot young champion? I find that hard to believe IMO, and I feel Roach was sincere in saying Mr. Hopkins was a beast in camp, Roach could see he was the stronger fighter in the ring, but just didn't try or do **** after 4 rounds? I have 2 articles in 2 seperate magazines where Roach repeats that he could not understand why Mr. Hopkins was not fighting up to his standard level, and when questioned Mr. Hopkins would not tell him why. Hence Roach quit the team and publicly said he would have no part in Mr. Hopkins getting hurt in the ring if he were to under perform in the manner he did against Joe. He strongly recommended retirement, and all but said it is insane for him to fight Pavlik. Then, be damned if the Hopkins from around 2001 didn't climb thru the ropes.:rofl
Whoops. That is exactly how the olympics are scored. And it is why the fights are so ****. In pro boxing you score on clean effective punching, effective aggression, ring genralship and defense. Seeing as joe was the effective aggressor and ring general in every round most sane judges have a hard time giving Hopkins enough rounds to win the fight. Clearly you are not a guru of boxing scoring to anyone.
Dont make me point out the glaring innacuracies in your posts. Do you actually know what is meant by ring generalship and effective aggression? I doubt it. The ring general is the guy that controls the centre of the ring and dictates the pace and range of the fight. Joe CLEARLY did all 3. No ****ing question. Bernard wanted to stand off and fight at his pace, but Joe was on him like a bad suit all night, forcing Hopkins to yeild ground and fight at Joe's unholy pace. That my friend is ring generalship. Effective aggression is NOT the same as clean effective punching. Coming forward while not throwing is ineffective aggression. Coming forward while throwing and making the opponent block and evade, even if very few punches land cleanly IS counted as effective aggression. The effectiveness of Joe's aggression can easily be seen by rounds 9 and 10 where Hopkins was clearly close to gassing. Had Joe's aggression not been effective, that would not have been the case. If joe's aggression was not effective throughout the fight why didnt Hopkins stand his ground and walk through it.... the answer is because he couldn't and taht was down to Joe. Joe was coming forward and throwing all night and it simply doesnt matter that many shots missed or were blocked, that makes him the effective aggressor. Many people misunderstand this term... it is not effective as in how great an effect they are having it is effective as in who is the actual aggressor. I know you score biased heavily towards clean punching and maybe it should be scored that way, but dont try and pretend boxing is scored that way because it simply isnt.
No they don't. It was pathetic on how Cortez referee'd the Hatton/Mayweather fight and the Cazaghe/Hopkins fight using contrasting laws, both in favour of the American.
You're a complete idiot. If you think this is a Brit bashing thread apparently you have not read anything I said on this thread so get the hell off of it.
Of course you're not biased against the nasty man that KO'd your boyfriend and made him **** in his shorts :yep
Obviously, a jack ass like you would believe someone like Presscot making a joke about Oscar shitting himself. That's exactly what I expect out of you. Also... once again you have zero logic. Wouldn't I want to build UP the fighter who knocked out Oscar, if that was the case? Let alone the fact that Calzaghe beat down my favorite up and comer at the time, Jeff Lacy. I sit with no bias on this issue, and I actually like them both.
haha, Guru_Too_You is back - or should that be 'Guru_To_You'? How ya doon, ya ****en idiot? :hi: I guess the KD shot in rd 1 completely worn poor old B-Hop out? Cos he did sweet **** all thereafter, until he had his faked lowblow rest in the 10th rd :yep
I dunno man, I tried to give you a chance after you used to jump onboard with radar and try to gayly tagteam me back on the Mayweather threads, but there's just something about you that shrieks 'GAY ****' :yep
Hopkins stamina wasn't at normal levels or Calzaghe just put on too quick a pace. It's a bit odd B-hop would get tired even at 43 yrs old he is as well conditioned as anyone.
No, you should be embarassed for making such a dumb ass statement. It's purely a novice's point of view. Why in the hell should Hopkins be " embarassed "?? Learn how to analyze a fight before talking bull****.
Joe Calzaghe has MANY fine attributes. He's definitely a world class boxer. But PLEASE don't try to sell me on his punching prowess. Julian Jackson he is not. He's quick and he lands those flurries that impress the fans and judges but those barrages are a lot of sizzle and not so much steak.
