    MW was an established division in the 90s, SMW was embryonic.

    Its like asking whats more established in the 90s, Cruiserweight or Heavyweight?


    But theres gems in any time period, like CW Holyfield. Just fewer in a diluted, vacuum of a division than a bona fide one with a lucrative history. Hopkins and Calzaghe are clearly gems in their divisions.

    Eubank and Kessler gives the edge to Calzaghe . Trinidad and DLH are natural WW's, and Hopkins has losses to Taylor which affect his legacy

    Kessler is Joe Calzaghe's Jermain Taylor. i.e the young gun coming to take the crown towards the end of his reighn. Difference is Calzaghe beat him unlike Hopkins.

    Have to give Calzaghe the edge for me. Also he beat Hopkins at LHW.

    Kessler is not in Jermaine Taylors league.

    Hopkins was stupid to be facing JT when hes himself at 40 years of age, IMHO, his bravery got the better of him. No one faces that calibre of opponent at 40, and to be reprimanded for losnig at that age to such an opponent, you;ve got ask questions about the bias person raising the reprimand. Noone faults Joe Louis for not being able to stop Rocky Marciano or Ali for not beating Holmes.

    I'm sorry mate but I'm starting to think your a troll. Kessler has beaten someone who has beaten Taylor and imo would beat Taylor but fair enough you can have your opinion.

    Well the question is who fought and beat the better guys. I don't really care which division was "more established" by your definition. That's like saying some complete bum would beat Calzaghe just because he's a middle weight.

    Don't forget Benn, Jones Jr, Eubank, Collins, McLenan, Watson, Toney had all been SMWs before this time so it wasn't exactly a new division.

    I'm sorry mate, I can undertand you thinking that as it was a close fight but Calzaghe won for me and he was AT LEAST as past his prime as Hopkins was. Hopkins was to blame for it not having happend earlier as well.

    Well when you look at the "field" Hopkins was playing in, it looks a lotter thinner than it's made out to be doesn't it? Only a few star names on his MW resume and they weren't natural middle weights.
