Momus - You say Trinidad tops any Calzaghe win because of what the hype was before the fight. Then what about Lacy? He was IBF/IBO champ, had just destroyed Reid, former Olympian, betting favourite etc.

Why is it you'd ignore that Kessler fought most of his career at MW or lower and then moved up for instant success in the weaker SMW division, but pick up the Hopkin opponents who moved up from a tough division into another good division?

Really I mean, why are you picking details to fit your own agenda again but ignoring them when they dont fit it? But that would be such a rhetorical question, given you do it all the time.

Come on this is getting beyond a joke now. Kessler was a unified SMW champ and a 3x SMW champ. I know he started out at LMW but he was massive going into the Calzaghe fight. ODLH started at Super Feather and him and Tito only had 1 or 2 MW fights before B-Hop. If they did half as much at MW as Kessler did at SMW you'd have a point.

You don't have to apologize b'cause you are making it up... I never said that Hopkins beat him there in Central America, he came off the canvas twice, put a hell of a fight there and drew and Mercado was a huge guy and that place was very hostile. He then beat the **** out of Mercado in the US and in the rematch. Calzaghe's win against Veit was BIG and like I said I have it all in tape. You were biased by underlining and putting sizes in that way when you and I know that Hopkins defended against contenders for all the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO Commissions after the win against Tito and against ODLH. In my personal opinion, Calzaghe's big wins were against Mitchell the way he did, against Lacy when the stupid americans made him a 2 to 1 favourite in that fight, the Veit fight in Germany and the 1st round kayo you didn't mention against the same, and the big fights against fellow countrymen in Wodhall, Reid and Eubank. His most difficult fight was not against the tough, big but not so skilled Kessler in another unification bout but when he faced Hopkins even at age 43 and came off the canvas in the 1st to reach mid-stage and still slightly behind on the scorecards. Forget about RJJ, tell the people the truth! Actually people already know b'cause you didn't make a poll between him and Roy, between him and Kessler, between him and Eubank, between him and Froch, between him and Ward, you did between Calzaghe and Hopkins. Period.

both are **** reigns..... Hopkins wins over Trinidad and Johnson are better than anything on Joe's cv at smw though so B-Hop had a better reign but a lotta b level guys on his as well.

How was I biased by underlining champions? Your talking absoulute ****. If I was being biased I would not have underlined G.Johnson. It's not like he won a title at MW. I was just underlining people who won titles at any weight. You forget Calzaghe isn't that much younger than Hopkins and turned pro around the same time give or take 2-3 year. Every says Calzaghe fought bums during his reighn so you make excuses for why Calzaghe beat more champs. You forget Hopkins was only undisputed for 2-3 years.

No...I made absolutely no reference to "hype", and comparing it to Lacy on that basis is being either disingenuous or stupid. Tito was coming off arguably the two best performances of his career (Vargas and Joppy), and was being talked about in terms of being the best p4p fighter in the world. His momentum was huge. He is also a first ballot Hall of Famer, and widely acknowledged as one of the best fighters of the era. The only negative on the win is that it occurred 6 lbs north of his best weight, but Tito was obviously still effective at the weight (destroyed middelweight titlists Joppy and Cherifi either side of Hopkins). The Wright loss was years later after he had already retired, and shouldn't be used as a barometer of his ability at 160 at the time of the Hopkins fight.

Lacy was an excellent win for Calzaghe. However, he can't seriously be mentioned in the same breath as Trinidad. He hadn't proven himself to be a great fighter (or even a very good one), and a lot of the hype surrounding him can be attributed to American desperation for a new superstar rather than the overwhelming nature of his performances. There's nothing in his record to put him above Holmes or Joppy. Kessler was much more proven when Calzaghe beat him, and counts for a lot more in the overall scheme of things.

You did not and you can't fool the entire board, you underlined and put it in different sizes. You underlined Glen, oh, that is terrific! But Joe Lipsey and J D Jackson r ****, isn't it?! Mercado, Allen and Echols who were huge were ****, isn't it? Many of the SWW that went up by just putting 6 pounds were big names and you completely put them like they didn't mean anything like Brown who stopped Norris, Daniels, another former SWW Champ were nothing, isn't it?. Hopkins was a late bloomer like Martinez is now and already lost at ww to Margo, the question is not age, the question is that B'Nard couldn't go toe to toe with Joey at that point in time cause Joey was a relentless punching machine and a real warrior like Hatton, actually I rank him as the best european ever to travel to the States after Cerdan and much above Maske, Michalczewski, Otkke or any other including Benn, Eubank and Collins and at the same level as Lennox Lewis... Yeah, Calzaghe had to fight bums cause otherwise the WBO would strip him of his title, not his fault, but you and I know that no matter the size of the opponents, Hopkins fought the best and that's why he is a living legend. Actually he schooled Tarver and Pascal to win the LHTW Title twice 2 and lost 12 round SD and MD in very close rounds against top, the very best of the SMWs and LHWs in Calzaghe and Dawson. And the funny part of all this is that Calzaghe gets very well along with Hop and not with Froch or Eubank. The "White Boy" comment was to sell tickets at the Planet Hollywood ring and you can see Joey whispering at Bernard's ear at the end of the fight in the most friendly way. You were completely fooled and again in the Dawson fight but that is why B'Nard is smarter than y'all, isn't it?

Go on then. Where's your bull **** excuse. I clearly underlined Johnson, the post as you can see has not been edited. I never said underlined wins were neccesarily better, just that they'd won a title at some point. You're trying to say I said Manfredo is better than Eastman, which I clearly didn't, I just listed wins in chronological order (which you'd know if your bull **** about having all their fights on tape was true). By the way, Eastman is no better than Bika, that I will say.

Let's call it a day. Maybe I was wrong, maybe you explained yourself better now. Hopkins was a great fighter, calzaghe was a great fighter, people are stupid underrating that fight between them cause this Ward-Dawson affair has nothing to do with the "Fight of the Planet (Hollywood)". We will be friends here in the board and it's all cool, buddy. Now, I have nothing to do with the **** that others say about Calzaghe here, let's be str8 about this, I have his entire collection of fights and I have never seen a guy with such willpower and heart and boxing skills, gifted like that. I do love Hatton but unfortunatelly his fighting spirit was not enough to do the job on Floyd.

By the way folks if you think B-Hop is greater than Calzaghe over all, fair enough. I have my unpopular opinion but I can understand others since Calzaghe's win over Hopkins was very close and Hopkins did more at LHW and became the oldest ever champ but I honestly believe Calzaghe did more at SMW than B-Hop at MW and that is quite clear imo.
