At top of the bbc sports newspage there is a headline which says "Joe Calzaghe Splits with long time promoter Frank Warren. More soon."

They have had a superb partnership, but if Joe has only one more bout in him, I can understand his need to make as much money as possible.

Holy cow, I wonder what the impetus was for the split? Money? Warren maybe trying to force him to fight Pavlik?

I wonder what Frank's next column will say...........

No doubt Joe was the one who insisted on defending his WBO belt 20 odd times and never wanted to fight out of the UK, and had to be held at gunpoint to agree to fight Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler and Bernard Hopkins.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer fella.

Ok guys lets not beat around the bush Joe is only doing this so he scoops a last major pay day and calls it quits. Frank is aware of this. Win or loose Joe is history.

I am unsure as to what Frank will say - he would look ridiculous if he started mouthing off all over the place as he did with Hatton. It was only in this month's Boxing Monthly that Warren said the best fighter he ever worked with was Joe Calzaghe.

As much as I dislike Warren, it would have been good for them to reach the end still in partnership, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Calzaghe states that he has 'some issues' to resolve with Warren - I suppose we can only speculate as to what they are.

"To be honest everyone who has worked with Joe has known for a long time that he is hugely gifted but that he has problems with tall fighters and he can be hurt. I have done a great job maximising his career because myself, his Dad Enzo and Joe himself know he has been badly hurt in the gym by rangy fighters who can punch a bit.
Joe wanted no part of Kelly Pavlik and I know why. We spoke about Jones and both agreed it was a meaningless fight, but Joe made it pretty clear that money and not glory in the sport have long been his goals.

I wish him all the best, but it is a good job he didn't fight Pavlik as he would have been badly knocked out and we kept well clear of prime Jones and Hopkins for similar reasons"

A fighter of Calzaghe's stature doesn't even need a promoter anyway. Half of the fighters under the GBP banner are using them really as matchmakers, rather than promoters - in that they do what is best for the fighter, rather than a balancing act.

I know that Calzaghe has been influenced by Ricky Hatton and the money that has come his way by operating Stateside - and every fighter seems to be impressed at the professionalism that GBP bring to the table, compared to SN - so Calzaghe to GBP anyone?

It would make sense, GBP are at war with Top Rank - who promote Pavlik......

Surely this means that the Jones fight wont be his last fight ?
