let me pose this question, did calzaghe fight the same level of fighters before he fought kessler like froch did? It doesnt matter who would win in a fight between them, froch has already achieved more than joe just by beating pascal, taylor and dirrell in my opinion
They both suck, but Froch sucks more (in terms of skill). He couldnt even beat a Kessler that had/has depreciated quite a bit since the Calzaghe fight. However with that said, by the time he retires, the only thing Froch will have over Calzaghe is the level of opposition hes faced. For that reason hell always receive more respect from me, as his bravery and determination to fight the best pisses all over Calzaghe
Hmm, I'd say their CV is even as it stands now. But it's safe to say, that by the time the tournament finishes, Froch (as well as the other contestants) would have had a far better resume than Calzaghe. Wow, when thinking about it like that, I bet the Calzaghe fans are gutted their boy fought in a era which was very weak (compared to what it is now)
Lets not forget that Calzaghe easily destroyed Lacy when Lacy was undefeated and Calzaghe clearly beat Kessler when Kessler was undefeated. I thought Dirrell really beat Froch.
hit and ran? are you kidding me? I watched the Calzaghe/Kessler fight yesterday..I suggest you take a look at round 12 where Calzaghe who is clearly 3 or 4 rounds ahead stands in the middle of the ring trading with Kessler, eating some massive shots and eventually losing the round, But no signs of hit and run there? Calzaghe beat a better version of Kessler clearly after a close first half of the fight. Kessler clearly beat Froch. So everything you've said is just bitterness. Respect to Froch though Pascal,Taylor, Dirrell,Kessler and Abraham to come is some list of opponents to have back to back. Its refreshing to see fighters taking on the best. The super6 concept might be controversial but at least every fight is tough to call and a genuine test for each fighter.
Calz was/is a good fighter, decent athlete, and good-sized super middleweight who was never extraordinary and no where even moderately close to being an ATG - as well as being incredibly overrated by his "demographic" (ESB). Carl has some good attributes and deserves credit for the fights he has taken somewhat recently (the last couple years) but, he is a near mummy in the ring. [Kessler is a semi-mummy.] In a comparative Joe is an "A" and they are "B"s. Compared to all fighters past and present, Joe is a "B" (MOST generously attributed) while Froch & Kessler are "C"s. All are hard working good guys - just not great or exceptional athletes. To be truly outstanding (generally) you need to have the combination of top notch athleticism and top boxing development or fighting skills. Based upon his level, and excluding a mere focus upon resume - which was built upon bums and weak comp, Joe is somewhere at the bottom of the all-time top ten in the short lived super middle weight division. [If the categories were only the traditional middleweight and light heavyweight divisions then he doesn't rate at all.] Joe rates somewhere between 150 -200 all-time (near guys like Collins). Carl and Kessler somewhere at the bottom of that range at best (near guys like Ottke).
With Joe's hand speed are you kidding ?? Jermain Taylor was tagging Froch @ will ..Barring his gas problems Froch would have lost his 0 in that fight ..Joe would make Froch pretty with the amount of leather he'd hit Froch with ..
