I ''hyped'' B level fighter who fought Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler ( and Abraham in August). I think Froch is the truth, and either way when its all said and done, he will have fought and beaten better fighters than Calzaghe did even though Joe might have been a bad style match up head to head. Froch would still have a punches chance. Froch would have destroyed Lacy.
Froch did better against Kessler? I'll not argue with Carl that had the fight been in Nottingham the scores might have been exactly the same the other way. Neither man winning would have been upsetting, and 117-111 would have seemed amiss scored for either. There were many close rounds. At day's end it was overall a very even contest regardless of who you put ahead on your individual card. Meanwhile, a much sharper version of Kessler busted his ass to steal a few scant rounds from Calzaghe. I can understand liking Froch more, and thinking he's more exciting...but to call him better than the best super middleweight not only in British but perhaps in world history? And I am not a Joe nuthugger. Very unpleasing style, and I hate that he beat Kessler. Just calling it like it is. You may not like the "punches" that Joe landed, but slaps do count for points in the pros just as much as in the amateurs unless the person getting slapped is significantly outpunching the slapper or landing some incredibly telling blows. Froch might not have missed as often or as embarrassingly as Kessler did at times, but his briefly mounted offenses did miss Kessler often and embarrassingly. Joe's hummingbird-wing slaps did not. Calzaghe wouldn't have dropped one single round to Jermain Taylor. Not one minute of one round. Meanwhile, had Froch not stone knocked him out, he'd have lost clearly to a faded blown-up middleweight with shaken confidence.
Calzaghe was/is much better but Froch has bigger balls than Calzaghe could even dream of. Look at frochs last three opponents, they arguably beat Calzaghes whole resume and he's got Abraham next! Talent calzaghe 9 froch 4 Balls Calzaghe 2 Froch 10
No way. His opposition quality petered out in the last few years (barring Kessler) but all those good wins from ten to thirteen years ago? Drained Pascal, blown up Taylor and robbed Dirrell (not counting Kessler as he's a common opponent) aren't better than a lot of those. That said, you're right about Froch's balls dwarfing Calzaghe's. Moreso proven in the way he fights than who he fights IMO (since that's the promoters' department anyway).
I said arguably. So while it may not be true, after Abraham (if he wins) it will be something to ponder. He just faced calzaghes best opponent (barring an old Hopkins). Considering the tools Froch has, it's amazing who he's facing and how he's doing it.
Starie was a solid SMW fighter, who gave Ottke an arguement who could never win the big ones, but did hold a win over C Woods who went on to become IBF champ, beating guys like G Johnson and Gonzalez who finished D Michalczewskis unbeaten record, so Starie cant be all bad. Veit holds wins over L Mock who was the first man to put Haye down, Brewer and Braehmer who was undefeated and is currently WBO LHW champ. Not bad form for either really
Froch beat Taylor by a "stamina" knock-out. That menas Taylor was tired and became a sitting duck. A clean KO is when you hit the guy and he falls down and stays down. Taylor was on his feet, exhausted. Calzaghe has better stamina than any fighter we've seen since World War 2. He would have done the same thing to Taylor.
Like both Froch and Calzaghe but Joe was a A fighter - one of the best SWM's ever. Styles make fights and Joe had many styles and would have been a tough fight for anyone. Froch is exciting and a warrior but he is only a B fighter and would never be able to cope with Calzaghe.
Yes he had to fight him again as he was mandatory, and it was in Calzaghes interest to keep his belt as he wasnt wanted by alot of the tv stations at the time. Who do you feel Calzaghe should have fought that was willing to fight him in the SMW division, to improve his resume?
Thank you. Calzaghe was the tin man, all talent and no heart. Froch is the cowboy, all heart and alot of talent.
