I know Calzaghe generally fought twice a year, but if he could have crammed in 4 more title defenses during his Super Middleweight reign that would've allowed him to better Marciano's record at 50-0 and also equalled Joe Louis record of 25 title defenses, who would you have like to seen him fight? Personally it would have to be:

Sven Ottke - Undefeated Super Middle Champ (dubious - believe R.Reid to have beat him) plus a good name to have on record, could have unified division earlier.
Markus Beyer - Easily winnable plus 3x WBC Super Middleweight Champ
Steve Collins - Domestic clash, fought good opposition, 2 weight champ even though at end of career always came to fight and possessed a granite chin

for the 4th fight either a rematch with Robin Reid (who beside hopkins i believe gave him his hardest fight) or early defense of Thulani Malinga (even though way past it was a 2x WBC Super Middleweight champ had fought good opp i.e. Benn, Eubank, Reid, Holmes, Woodhall, Jones Jr, Rocchigiani)) or Glen Johnson (achieved F**K all at Super Middle but would have been a name on his record for the future in regard to what he accomplished light heavy)

Ottke, Johnson, Beyer would be good names on his record but if he really wanted to be the best Jones, Toney or Hopkins. Even deafets to those guys would gain him major respect.

I'd agree on Toney, Jones, Hopkins if possible, but were Toney & Jones already Light heavies when calz was defending his title 97' onwards, and did Hopkins ever state he was willing to come to Super Middle?

They were but he should've really pushed for a fight with one of them, moved up a weight if he had to. A win of any of those 3 would really lift his standing and put him up with the best.

If he beat Ottke, Reid in a rematch, Beyer and Malinga I don't think people would see him as any better than they currently do.

  8. well add the fact that Joe was killing himself everytime he needed to make the weight... surely a move up to LHW should have happened alot earlier

Oh No.... Now CALZAGHE IS EQUALLING JOE LOUIS AND ROCKY MARCIANO...... I AM ALMOST DONE WITH THE BULL****... History wise the WBO title doesn't mean ****. He can kind of lay modest claim to the linear title of a very 'modern' division by beating Kessler and Lacy- a fantasy title he never defended once.

Calzaghe probably stayed at 12st because 12st 7 was stacked!

Toney was at cruiserweight before Calzaghe beat Eubank so they were never anywhere near the same weight at the same time.

Hopkins agreed a contract with Showtime which was to have included a fight with Calzaghe at SMW, then scuppered it by coming back the next day with a demand for twice as much money. He then fought Morrade Hakkar (who was to have been the first fight of the Showtime contract) for half as much money as Showtime had offered and fought William Joppy rather than Calzaghe.
