. haha joes got it back to front. lacy was the beginning of joes title career (at the age of 34?), not the cumulation of it.

joe got in because he made a record number of defences, albeit largely crap ones before lacy, that hisclaim to fame. theres sure as hell nothing else to claim it by.

hes still lying about roy being at the top of his game after blatantly saying he would be dissapointed to fight shot roy years earlier.

hes not mentioning his fear of flying now, its mysteriously vanished.

'I had a shoulder injury and I couldn’t extend my arm so for two years.....That’s when I looked awful in the ring – my timing was off. I struggled against David Starie, Rick Thonberry and Robin Reid, those guys' - WHAT KIND OF UTTER BULL**** IS THAT 2 YEARS? haha! does joe think we are mugs to still fall for his BS?

'I was injured again and I was going to pull out. But my dad told me I had to fight Lacy'
'If anything it motivated me even more to prove I was the best.' - another abject lie, he didn't want to fight him...and yet he felt motivated to fight him too! exact opposites!

'There’s no regrets. If I’d have lost to Jones, of course I’d have fought again. But I didn’t lose' - of course you didn't lose to shot jones! haha. who was gonna lose to shot jones??

I will give him credit for Hopkins and Kessler but he spent most of his best yrs fighting bums ..

But his HOF induction was worth it for his defenses ..

joe seems to be of the opinion that if he keeps telling the same lie publically again and again, he might convince himself eventually that hes not lying.

    shame hes only fooling himself.

You really don't like him do you? He absolutely schooled Lacy. Lacy was favourite and he dominated him. That was one of the greatest performances in recent times. He didn't want to fight because of his injury but once it was made he felt motivated because he was underdog (you didn't paste that bit). That doesn't seem so difficult to understand mate.

Interesting how Calzaghe himself views his career. He's giving himself far too much credit for beating a shot Jones, but probably not enough for surviving a gut check against Robin Reid. It's also bizarre how he describes his best victory on paper as a "decent win", but seems to view slapping around Omar Sheika as a watershed moment in his career.

Yeah, that watershed moment was him getting over that shoulder injury and being able to knock people out again. I'm surprised by the negative reactions. I take it Joe isn't very popular round here.

He's delusional on the. Jones win he uses Roy previous rankings when he had a pulse as the measuring stick ..He know what he was ..I don't expect him to downplay himself .. Just look at the round table discussion with Jones Jr,Eubanks,Collins and Woodhall .Joe was clearly out of his league when in the presence of those guys ..Excpet for Woodhall who was just filling in for Benn

yeah he wasn't up for it, and he was up for it. its a lie obviously, he WASNT up for it but needed his dad to push him to force gibbering joe into it - there was no injury. if the injury was there, he would have pulled out plain and simple - his dad never let him fight when crocked. ''Once it was made" doesn't come into the equation at all.

other than that I agree fully that joe, having achieved almost nothing up to that point at the age of 34, was the underdog for obvious reason that he had been unable to achieve anything real in 34 years, and that he schooled the 1 dimensional lacy.
if joe had tried to do something decent in the previous 8 years to lacy then he would NEVER have been the underdog. He is to blame for being viewed as ****, because he was being **** all that time - its almost a long enough time of being **** to set a record in itself.

Joe beat everyone he faced and beat all the top Americans who finally skewed up enough courage to fight him. Jones, Hopkins, Lacy; Joe whipped them all as well as Kessler, Eubank and all the rest. One of the greatest boxers to ever enter the squared circle. The hatred he gets is a testament to his greatness, much like the hatred directed at two other greats, Floyd and Wlad.

there is no way on earth that you get gibbering joe in the ring with prime roy, if roy came to wales to fight him then joe's fear of flying would be suddenly miraculously cured so he could gibberingly dash for the next flight to Italy.
