There's a wide range of opinions on Calzaghe, which tends to be the case for fighters with undefeated records and thin resumes. Throw in his personality, fighting style and Britishness, and it's not difficult to see why he is a polarising figure.

I think most reasonable people give him credit for the wins over Hopkins, Kessler and Eubank. How you view the Lacy domination comes down to whether you think Calzaghe ruined him, or that Lacy was just an overhyped fraud in the first place.

What tends to lead to a lot of arguments is when people try to dress up his wilderness years as him running a murderers' row gauntlet. To be fair to Calzaghe, he doesn't appear to be in complete denial about that himself.

I always think we will never know how good the lacy win was because of the injury he had in his next fight. Why on earth they took another awkward lefty for lacy ill never know. So I view it as very good one, Lacy was dispatching the levels below true well class with a good deal of ease before he got battered for pillar to post by Calzaghe
