Punching is plyometric.. Just like sprinting or jumping.. It is a athletic skill... So you cannot take a average power puncher and turn him into Mike Tyson. You can improve it..but not to the heights of "Mike Tyson's level" etc....
It can. The opinion that it doesnt is old school fart and a myth. Resistance will ALWAYS increase peformance that is without dispute. BUT whats one mans poison is another mans gain. Theres no point in espousing the virtues of old school techniques as if there hard and fast because there not. Fighters train better than yesterday because of advancements in sport science. Those that see diffrent merely do so from a subjective standpoint.
Exactly. BUT weights CAN help increase punching power. Naturally the effects wont be as dramatic as some may think but there certainly can and will be an increase in power by adding resistance to your workout.
Yeh it's just like sprinting, where the objective is to train your muscles to create as much force as possible.......and apply that force with power = speed. With weights and Plyometrics, you can improve this. But a average joe is never gonna be Asafa Powell, and the same goes for boxing. You are not suddenly going to become Mike Tyson..never ever..!
Of course not. I dont think anyone ever insinuated that though. All sprinters train with resistance. Boxers can do the same but naturally its a matter of preference.
Old school training is the best training, weights are not a good thing or needed for a fighter,I do not care what anyone says. And Joe is one that prove the point!
I think back then when he was at his old gym he is talking about he didn't have physios and dietitions ect. but now he probably does.
another thing i f**king hate calzaghe,,,my honest opinion.... i don't care how many punches he throws, if you actually watch him punch, and you're a real boxer, you can see that it's just horrible. yeah he beat hopkins and jones jr. but hopkins was in his 40's and jones is almost at his 40's idk my trainer (demarcus chop chop corley) said calzaghe is a machine, so i really don't know. maybe it's something i don't see.
