Not really. Hopkins has a much better resume. He beat 4 guys who were considered top-10 p4p at the time in Trinidad, DLH, Tarver and Winky. Throw in Johnson for good measure, as he is an elite fighter despite his record, and Hopkins is the only one to stop him. Regardless of them moving weight, they were still considered elite fighters.

The only p4p fighter that Calzaghe has ever beat was Hopkins at 43 years old. It was a SD victory that many believe Hopkins won. The other elite fighter that Calzaghe has on his resume is a prime Kessler and a way past-prime Eubanks.

RJJ, Hopkins, Trinidad, Lewis and Pacman are the best boxers of their generation, with DLH, SSM, Tsyzu, Mayweather, Winky, Tarver, Calzaghe, JMM, Barrera and Morales the lower half (in no particular order).

Note: Mayweather's resume isn't as good as Hopkins, RJJ's, Trinidad's, Lewis's or Pacman's...plus he cherry picked and didn't fight the best outside of 130.

Also, as much as many fans wouldn't like it, Wlad Klitschko has a great chance to reach the level of RJJ, Hopkins, etc... if he is able to beat these guys during a four year span as he already has 10 title defenses:

Povetkiin, Valuev, Peter, Haye, Arreola, Chagaev, Solis (if fulfills his potential) and maybe a Rahman/Toney (if they prove to have anything left)....Those are big "IFs" for Wlad, but he would be favored over all, and all of them are quality HWs....That would be an impressive streak, of course it's only in theory...

    He also lost four times.

Losses SHOULD count against your resume. You can't penalise fighters who haven't lost, especially when they have solid competition without scandal like Calzaghe.

Of this recent 20 year period

    #1 - Pernell Whitaker
    #2 - Floyd Mayweather Jr
    #3 - Roy Jones Jr
    #4 - Lennox Lewis
    #5 - Joe Calzaghe
#6 - Oscar De La Hoya
    #7 - Bernard Hopkins
    #8 - Manny Pac

    H2H?

Only thing anyone needs to know is

    RJJ > *

They should you are right, but all three were controversial, and you can't count his first fight as that means nothing. Many people had him beating Taylor and Calzaghe, besides the fact that he was 40+ in those three fights and its hard to hold that against him.

Had SSM, DLH, Trinidad fought the guys that Mayweather did, they would be undefeated too, instead they fought the best (in their prime)...

SSM jumping up two weight classes and beating a prime DLH is a bigger victory than any Mayweather has ever had. On top of that, I can't imagine Mayweather beating a prime Forrest or Winky either.

Trinidad fighting Hopkins...would Mayweather have ever done that (or the equal of that in a p4p sense)?

RJJ was p4p #1 for the better part of 10 years... You count losses, but fail to mention that they all happened on the downside of their careers at 36 years older and up.

Do you believe that Calzaghe would be cosidered a top-5 p4p fighter at 40 like Hopkins, let alone 43? Why doesn't Calzage fight a prime fighter like Pavlik, Tarver, Johnson or Dawson (Bigger threats) instead of RJJ, similar to RJJ fighting Tarver (his biggest threat)....

Would Mayweather still be undefeated had he not retired and kept fighting until he was 36-40 like RJJ? Would he be even competitive with a guy like Cotto, like SSM was at 35, yet he won't even fight him now when he's in his prime...

Have a look at Calzaghe, the one thing he's never shown signs of is losing his stamina, his workrate stays where it is.

If Joe was motivated and kept finding inspiration to be in the ring, I truly think he could last til 40 and not lose.

Clearly you are wrong. Pavlik was not STOPPED. The end proved it. What constitutes grounds for stoppage? It favors your pick? :bart

Though Whitaker IMO is a close second there. He would be beaten by a few WW throughout history, but very few if any LW's.

I guess everyone is wise to Calzaghe its great to see the guy who started this thread get owned. No Calzaghe isnt even close to the best fighter of this generation by a long shot, maybe he is the best British Boxer of this Generation.

Beating Jones now isn't going to mean much; if anything.

these are the boxers that i posted that i believe are above calzaghe.

    floyd mayweather
    roy jones jr
    bernard hopkins
    jermain taylor
    oscar delahoya
    shane mosley
    zab judah
    manny pacquiao
    juan manuel marquez
    marco antonio barrera
    erik morales
    prince naseem...

thing is you calzaghe fans rank him above them all but you only argue about taylor, judah, hamed and hopkins. It just shows that you know very little about the sport and that i'm right in saying that calzaghe is crap, and will never be an ATG.

Their incoming fight doesn't have the stature value anymore. Jones is past his prime and this is just for money. :yep

What credit does Joe deserve for beating a guy who has been knocked UNCONSCIOUS by Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver already???
