I don't think Eubank was shot in that fight mate, not at all. He looked tons sharper than he did in either of the Collins fights. Plus he was only what.. 31 in the fight with Joe, 32?

He may have been over the hill, peak wise, but far from the bottom of the other side. Eubank had Joe hurt late in the 12th, in fact I haven't seen Joe in trouble like that before or since.

You're one of the posters I respect the opinion of the most Sweet Pea, but I think you're wrong here. Eubank being shot is a myth, I think it was a great performance by Chris, and a great test for Joe.

Listen you petulant little child, I have studied the careers of both Joe Calzaghe and Chris Eubank to a level that your tiny little brain could not possibly comprehend.

You can sit there and say that Eubank was shot, educated consensus and material evidence proves otherwise. Secondly, all of those names that you have highlighted would have been worthless at the time Calzaghe potentially could have fought them. If you think he would have reaped widespread acclaim for fighting Clinton Woods back in 1998 (that was the last time Woods fought at 168 then you’re deluded.

I repeat - Calzaghe fought everyone who was anyone at 168lbs during his tenure with only three men escaping him:

    Ottke (avoided Joe)
Jones (had bigger fish to fry)
Hopkins (signed to fight in 2003 then pulled out – He’ll be taken care of in April anyhow)

Come on... "half"? Really? That was a good version of Eubank fighting Joe that night, maybe not 'Simply the Best' version but still good and very much up for it.

Have you seen Eubanks last two fights? Tremendous losing performances against a naturally bigger guy.

Im not even gonna waste my time. Maybe later I will show you how wrong you are (whats to say Joe couldnt move up to fight Woods or vice versa..or if you think Johnson or Griffin wouldnt have been a better alternative than say...Pudwell or Salem...then you are insane...but again, I wont waste my time).

And BTW, Ive forgotten more boxing then you will ever know "little child"...

    :patsch

(and I never said Eubank was shot jackas...just he was far from his peak...learn to read...)

Biggest myth in boxing states that Eubank was shot when he fought Calzaghe. It is like people who have not seen the fight or have no clue about Chris Eubank have taken one quick glance at him on Boxrec, saw that he was over 30 and that the Calzaghe fight came at the back end of his career and that’s it. As far as they’re concerned that’s enough evidence to convict him of being shot.

    Total ignorance.

Agreed. And maybe half is a little strong...but he was definately past it....but this guy is making Eubank out to be near-prime. Which couldnt be further from the truth.

As I said, this is my favorite Calzaghe performance....Im not knocking it at all. Hell its what made me a fan.

Damn guys, why can't we discuss things like civil, educated people? Why does it always have to resort to personal attacks?

    Come on.:good

I over-exagerrated when I said "shot", but that was by no means a prime Eubank. He went 0-2 after Joe(albeit to a bigger man) and then retired. He didn't have much left to offer by the time he fought Joe. I think Joe may still have beaten a prime Eubank, but not as he did that night.

It was a good performance by Eubank in that he was able to gut it out and hang in there against the beast that Calzaghe was that night, but the fight itself was not close.

No, the fight wasn't close, but a lot has to be attributed to the style matchup. Joe was a nightmare for Chris' style due to Eubank's (for me ONLY) weakness, that of his lack of stamina and workrate.

    Shot is Ali vs Holmes.

seems like a good reason guys in his 30's fights 3 more and retires indicates he was past his best.
