I think we should all give the Calzaghe stuff a break. It should be as black and white as this for all of us on either side of the divide: - if he takes on Pavlik and beats him, he may have been the real deal all along and just never bothered proving it til the last few years of his career, and he has a right to be regarded as one of the elite boxers (say top 10) of his generation - if he ends his career by beating up an over-the-hill former superstar and doesn't take the Pavlik challenge, or fights Pavlik and gets beaten, then I am inclined to state that 3 fights (Lacey, Kessler, and the poor performance and narrow 'win' v Hopkins) do not make a great career and that he never attained that elite status. Do we agree on this gentlemen???
No, this is simply the idiocy of someone who doesn't know jack **** about 1990s boxing,. Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Brewer, Mitchell, Mkertchian, Veit - are all tough as nails fighters who Calzaghe beat without controversy And the mere fact that you think a narrow, yet clear win to Calzaghe is controversial enough to put in quotations is beyond me, Hopkins was fighting at HOME and the judges screwed him? Get over yourself. The only thing I think anyone with a sane mind will agree on is that you're irrational ****ing hater of Calzaghe.
It's already black & white for most people except you. I don't need you (an irrelevance) to clarify or agree anything. I am one of the most subjective Calzaghe fans here but you sir, are an imbecile who deserves no particular attention. You may have noticed that I have not humoured you previously, and I probably will not in the future - whatever your stance.
We have come to expect so little from this guy that we are lowering the standard since Calzaghe refuses to take any real chances. The only true challenges are at 175 in Tarver and Dawson, anything less is not going to prove a thing. The reality of this is lost on Calzaghe fans who are completely biased.
Right, and may I add that so many times the excuse of Eubank being over the hill at 31 was the only reason why Joe won they said, whereas, I garauntee you that if Eubank had been 27 when he fought Joe, the excuse would have been that eubank was not at his prime yet....Phonys, all of em:good
I completely agree. PACFAN84 you clearly have no idea about the people that Calzaghe has beaten throughout his career and bizarrely believe that only his last couple of fights count. I think that shows more about your knowledge of boxing than anything. And to devalue Calzaghe's win over Hopkins is to completely fail to grasp Hopkins' immense talent. There will always be one more fight he should have had to cement his greateness with someone. I'm sorry but the guy has proven himself.
Anyone who's beaten Joe, can call him a failure, which means he is not, because no one's beaten him :tong:tong:tong
It's just the one as far as I can see... His agenda is that he wants to belittle Calzaghe so that Pac his idol, can be undisputed p4p number 1.
the thing is that people don't say eubank was over the hill because of he was 31, they say he was past it because he was not in his best shape and having trouble controlling his weight. I'm not one of the ppl who says this because i did not follow his career, but looking at boxrec i can see their point. Eubanks weights for the 2 fights previous to the Calzaghe fight at 168 were 177 lbs twice, which is above the LHW limit, and then after the Calzaghe fight at SMW, Eubank fought twice at 190lbs, losing both to Carl Thompson. Eubanks previous fights at SMW before Calzaghe were both losses to Steve Collins. Like i said i am going based on boxrec but sometimes the records can paint a part of the portrait Personally, I think Calzaghe is a great fighter, but i also think Hopkins did enough to show that he would have beaten him in his prime. I also don't think Roy Jones is a very good fight for Joe Calzaghe at the moment. From my point of view, which granted might be that of an outsider (I started following Calzaghe late in his career), Kessler is still clearly Calzaghe's best win. The book hasn't been written on Kessler yet, but so far he has not lived up to his potential (imo) and its a pity cause Calzaghe's legacy could sure use a helping hand from Kessler.
Yawn...... can we all agree your calzaghe bashing is so you can proclaim pac the best fighter in yada yada yada doing yada yada yada p4p yada yada yada. I will just wait for you to take aim on RJJ B-Hop Oscar and co so you can clear the way for pac to be the best evvvaaaaaaa. SRR what did he ever do? beat some old boxers who wouldnt stand up in todays game. I hope I am giving you good ideas for your next hatchett jobs. I would probably bet you have registered here before maybe with lacy carrying your hopes to beat calzaghe but now you return with the ghost as your kryptonite.
