He was an excellent fighter. Lennox, Wilde, kid Lewis and fitzsimmons all rank higher.

Who said Wlad over Calzaghe?? Joe's wins over undefeated prime Kessler, then Hopkins are greater than anything Wlad or Vitali have achieved.

But Lennox is Jamaican, not a European.

Born in West Ham, London. So he's British of African descent. So I take it no American of African descent can be counted as American?

Jones, Hopkins, Eubank all in their primes beat Joe. Joe is among the best, but he gets way overrated for beating overrated fighters like Kessler and Lacy. Joe might of outlanded Hopkins, but he got dropped by him and schooled for the first 6 rounds before he outworked Hopkins so it was a fight could of gone either ways. Not a convincing victory for Joe especially over an older fighter.

Think of the implications behind that fight.....Max probably has the biggest win of any non American fighter in the history of the sport.

Categorising Fitz is very difficult, and to add to the confusion he was an American citizen throughout much of his boxing career. There was no strict definition of an Australian citizen at that time, as they were all classed as British subjects anyway. There was no real concept of Australian 'nationality', at least not in the same way as there is now.

(Lennox) Lewis for example considered himself to be British, Canadian and Jamaican. Applying the same standards to Fitz, he could be British, Australian, a New Zealander or American.

 get the fuk out of here...

Joe's career= embarrassing joke with his best win(great) name Hopkins where he also received a gift. Gift against what 44 years old ass Hopkins.:-(

His reign at WBO is also disgrace, a laughing stock.

edit. Joe has better career than Vitali. That is not saying much thou.

Hopkins went on to beat Kelly Pavlik and Jean Pascall. So it's not like he was a shell. His two fights before the Calzaghe fight was also wins against Ronald Wright and Antonio Tarver at light-heavyweight. Hopkins was also the Ring Champion at Light-heavyweight. p4p known as one of the best.

Calzaghe still had to go UP in weight, and fight on foreign soil.
