Calzaghe The Greatest Fighter Of The Last 25 Years!

Oh yeah. The difference of the purse. Yea, you right. Hopkins and Joe should've fought earlier in their careers, just like Joe and RJJ should've fought earlier in their careers.

We tend to be a bit more aware of what is going on in the outside world. I know you guys tend not to look further than your navel.

Point is he reneged on a fight with JC and when he did fight him he lost.

 

Then surely old Bernie is to blame for pulling out of the fight years ago.

 

I am a PACFAN purely because I think he is thrilling to watch. I am not a Filipino, nor am I a fanboy. I love Barrera, Morales and JMM too, they are 4 of my favourite ever fighters. I cannot decide whether I think the 1st fight Pac-JMM fight was a draw or a razor-thin Pac win, it's too close to call for me, but I definitely thought JMM won their 2nd fight by 1 or 2 rounds. But the judges thought differently. I scored the fight objectively as I am a boxing fan before I am a fight of any particular fighter. I wasn't rooting for Pac, I was loving a fight between 2 greats IMO. It's a shame that here in the Fanboy Playground, any expression of appreciation for certain fighters means you are the victim of prejudice and your opinions disregarded.

To say Pac beats up 'faded legends' is laughable- that is CLEARLY Calzaghe! And I'm not referring to Hopkins here, although B-Hop was shown not to have the stamina anymore in the fight, he was still competing at a high level prior to meeting Joe, I'm talking about this shameful money-making beatdown that's coming up against RJJ.

But anyway, the 'faded legends':

In the 1st Barrera fight, MAB was 29, and was ranked #3 p4p, and in the last 3 years had wins over top 10 p4p Hamed, top 10 p4p Morales, and HOFer Johnny Tapia. Faded? ANYTHING BUT.

In the 1st and 2nd Morales fights, Erik was 29 and in the 3rd he was 30. In the 1st and 2nd, and I think the 3rd too but I'm not 100%, Morales was top 10 p4p. In the couple of years before the 1st, Morales beat Paulie Ayala, Carlos Hernandez and Jesus Chavez, and had a close as hell classic with MAB. And he was so 'faded' he won the 1st! Did he slide to 'faded' condition in the 10 months between that career-best win and the 2nd fight? No, he didn't. Pac became the 1st man to stop him.

And Marquez? He has matured late and was at his peak for both Pac fights. And the record shows Pac drew and won 2 fights. Even if you disagree, he floored a top 10 p4p guy 4 times in total, and made both fights razor-thin classics.

That Pac beat up 'faded legends' is the biggest myth in boxing. Only the final Morales and the final Barrera fights could even be argued as that, but bear in mind that in the 2nd Pac fight Morales was still highly competitive and was only a couple of points down when he was stopped, so he wasn't shot by the 3rd fight, and in Barrera's last fight before Pac II, he floored Marquez and put up a great fight, so neither man was in the abject state that RJJ is now (having not beaten a top 10 LHW contender since 2004, being sparked by 2 good but not great LHWs in 04 and 05, and failing to stop a blown-up welterweight who was rustier than the Titanic, in his last 'competitive' fight).

Pac may not (yet) be up there with RJJ, Hopkins and Mayweather, but in my own rankings he is on the same level as guys like DLH and Lewis.

 

PS: It is worth noting that the Eubank that Calzaghe beat was coming off 2 losses to Steve Collins, and his last 2 fights before Joe were against Luis Dionisio Barrera (35-8-4, had lost his last 4 fights) and Camilo Alarcon (13-2). If that isn't 'faded', I don't know what is.

 

A reason why BHOP didnt fight JC was cause he was unkown in the US and money wouldn't come close to DLH.

 

Calzaghe was far from at his best as Barry Mcguigan alluded to but still beat Hopkins easily. Calzaghe = winner

 

He whipped Hopkins in America and is coming to the US to whip Jones. Your boxers want to grow a set and get a passport.
