Sickening how a trolling thread has managed to get so much attention. Anyone that thinks Calzaghe is greater than Julio Cesar Chavez, Pernell Whitaker or Evander Holyfield (just to name a few) is a ****ing troll or an idiot...

If Hopkins or Jones ducked Calzaghe then they ducked Svenn Ottke to. There was absolutely no reason for either one to fight Calzaghe. Calzaghe had a WBO strap at 168lbs, was facing mediocre opposition at best, often fighting down to the level of his opponent, was really not known anywhere outside of the U.K, would not bring much money to a fight with either one, and was not considered to be anything special. Beating him then would not have improved their standing, it would only get them the WBO belt, which is in all honesty, meaningless.

Calzaghe was just like Ottke before Lacy. At the time, everyone recognized Calzaghe, Kessler, and Lacy as the top 3 guys in the division, all were undefeated, so no one really knew who was the best at the weight. Calzaghe wiped the floor with Lacy, that made him the universally regarded supermiddleweight champion. Before this though, he was defending one of the belts at 168lbs against mediocre opposition, looking unimpressive against some, all of his defenses in the U.K, and never once tried to unify his belt with another. This is exaclty what Ottke was doing, except a different belt and Germany instead of the U.K. As most people know, Ottke is pretty much a joke in boxing. Could you imaging either one of the two men regarded as the top 2 P4P fighters in the world, the undisputed champion (Jones wasn't undisputed, but very few argued it) in their own divisions chosing to fight either Calzaghe or Ottke. Especially since they would have to go over to either the U.K or Germany. Hopkins and Jones did not duck Calzaghe, they ignored him because he was nothing at the time. Nothing but a WBO belt holder in the 168lbs division when they were the top 2 boxers in the world. If any fighter should be blamed for not allowing one of these fights to happen, it is Calzaghe. He had the top 2 guys P4P in the division directly below him and above him, two of the biggest stars in all of boxing at the time, and did nothing to make them even remotely interested in fighting him. And even when he became a recognized P4P fighter and a big name, it was Hopkins who made the fight happen, who called Calzaghe out, not the other way around.

If the argument was that Calzaghe has the hottest wife/girlfriend compared to any boxer of the last 25 years...then that could be more realistic to debate...

The honest judge new the score 116-111,hardly inched. The record book will show Calzaghe won,Hopkins lost. Hopkins could have fought Calzaghe when he was in his thirties so it all down to him.

.......the last 25 years?????? What the hell do you take as medication??? Its a great way to start an arguement, although, if we argue with an idiot, we are all to become IDIOTS... Pound for Pound, De La Hoya, Chavez, TYSON!!!!!!!!, Holyfield, Whitaker, Fenech (whom I hate), Tszyu, Mosely, Lewis, Jones jnr, Hopkins, Mayweather, my nanna, Hatton and approx. 15 others should rate as, on par, or better. The guy failed to impress overseas until now..... Im the greatest lover in the world, in my own bedroom.... Calzaghe is a performer, great fighter, tough guy, heart of gold, never says die.. but, please.... he aint the best in the last 25 minutes.

    Not at all.

I don't care who you pick as the greatest fighter of all time. But Joe Calzaghe is part of the group of Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Roy Jones and Joe Calzaghe...maybe a few others who are all credible picks as the greatest.

The simple facts are Joe Calzaghe doesn't lose. He has held the most credible title at 168 for an infinite period of time. He looks as good in the ring as any fighter in history (remember that was past prime Calzaghe against Lacy). Finally a few people are no longer having their viewpoint, their correct viewpoint suppressed and are speaking up and spreading the word that Joe Calzaghe is the best fighter of (at least) the last 25 years.

There are no legitimate arguments to as why he is not in the league, or greater than Sugar Ray Robinson.
