Jones went on a 15 fight win streak unless you count his loss to Montell Griffin. Whitaker did unless you count his loss to De La Hoya. And what does a 15 year winning streak have to do with it? Do you not take level of opposition into account? What HOF'ers has Calzaghe beat aside from past prime versions of Eubank(who's only a possibility) and Hopkins? His resume pails in comparison to many fighters in recent times. A winning streak isn't all there is to it, unless you think Sven Ottke is the third best fighter of the past 25 years behind Joe and Floyd.

Seriously, how simple can you be?

Calzaghe has said himself from I understand that Jones would've beaten him prime for prime, and according to a recent article in The Daily Mirror that has been pulled up, Joe said these words:

"I'm not chasing after Roy Jones. Be honest, Roy Jones is a good fighter and I don't want tough fights, I just want big money."

    Joe Calzaghe - The Daily Mirror - June 1 - 1999 -

As well as this in a different interview:

"I could probably give Jones a tough fight, probably the best fight he's ever had," said Calzaghe. "But I know my capabilities and unless I got paid the crown jewels I wouldn't want to risk it."

This all sounds fishy to me as well, but they are direct quotes from articles.

He is an atg. I'm not sure he is the best of the last 25 years. However, is is the great SMW of the last 25 years without a doubt!

Aye what are you talking about. Everyone on that list were boxing at their peak or still performing at a very high level in the last 25 years (1983 onwards).

I've heard otherwise, as I posted.

And what makes Joe the best of the past 25 years? A winning streak against B level opposition for the most part? God I hate this ****ing forum sometimes. There are MANY fighter who have accomplished more than Joe over the past 25 years and deserve to be rated over him.

I was just highlighting the ones that were probably technically as good or better than calzaghe. Im no expert though.

If this thread was changed to Calzaghe The Best Winner Of The Last 25 Years i would of agreed.

OMG, i have seen it all now. The author of this thread is what gives us Brit boxing fans a bad name.

There is no doubt that JC was and still is a top class fighter. Some of his performances (Kessler in particular) have been nothing short of brilliant.

However his record is padded with some rediculous names such as Tocker Pudwill and more recently Peter Manfredo (I could go on but I won't).

He has remained unbeaten (for whatever reason) by not consistently fighting the best fighters of his generation.

He is without question an ATG but THE greatest fighter of the last 25 years!!?? Not on your nelly :patsch

He is not even the best fighter today. So what makes you think he is for these last 25 years?

    Lay off the pipe!

He manfredo affraid to throw a punch, the guy fights somone beats him an all of a sudden they suck, if he fought jones back in 1999, an beat his ass, which is what would of happen, that why jones DUCKED him. Jones would now be a called B level fighter, thrown in like of peter manfrado,,,,,,
