Without doubt your American and can't face facts Shot Calzaghe beat shot RJJ (former Drugs cheat) so im not so sure you can say is shot, his titles should be wiped from the record books.

    Calzaghe is 46-0

if you watched only the last 10 seconds of pacquiao-cotto you might think that was a bull**** stoppage. if you'd watched the whole fight you'd realise it wasn't.

all the ts has proved with that video is they have an agenda & FAR too much time on their hands.

I've seen most of those fights the first time round and while I think some of the stoppages may have been premature, they did nothing to alter the result. The Manfredo stoppage was terrible but he was clearly out of his depth anyway. It's not like any of these guys were winning the fight and Joe stole it. Besides, this was around the same time as Watson and McLennan and both those fighters were on every British refs mind (and probably still are).

I hate amateur style fighters. They're often able to outmaneuver and land on real fighters repetedly because they train and throw punches to "score" and not to hurt.

Ward is the next iteration of this shameful strategy.

1 look at Cotto's face is all it would take. Swollen, battered, on the run, gassed........I am a big Cotto fan, but that stoppage was legit and could have been done at any point past the 9th.

These guys were fine for the most part. Some of them, undamaged, getting hit with pitter patter shots or having their heads held down with one hand and being pummeled with the other.....

Comparing that to Pacquiao's beating of Cotto is .............. silly.

Very good point about Watson and McClellan.

It does not matter whether the result was changing or not. Do you think that's what the ref was thinking? Should he be? Unless a guy was taking severe punishment and he is looking to protect him...which generally was not the case in the clips shown.

No time to read through another hate thread, but of the stoppages in that video, all but one or two were legit.

Lawlor: Was being beaten literally from ringpost to ringpost, turning his back, not attempting to fight back. Ref finally stopped it when he clearly had no chance/desire to win.

Mitchell: Dropped the guy hard, beat him up for a few seconds, Mitchell tries to fight back but is all but out on his feet. Calzaghe knocks him into the ropes (a KD) and the ref calls it off with Mitchell basically on autopilot and fighting off instinct, taking a lot of clean shots and clearly not recovering.

Manfredo: Obviously premature. Manfredo wasn't fighting back but he wasn't hurt either, or even taking any hard shots. The stoppage was influenced by Manfredo clearly being outclassed though. It was apparent from the onset that he had no chance to win and was trying to ride out the clock. The ref saved us from having to watch the rest of that fight, so I'm not complaining lol.

Veit I, II: Calzaghe dropped him, he was shaky on his legs, Calzaghe followed up, Veit couldn't defend himself, the ref stopped the fight. Relatively normal stoppages.

Torres: Embarrassing fighter, fight should have been stopped before it started, ref saw it, stopped the fight when it was apparent the guy was just a clown.

Curry: Calzaghe was beating that fat ass, and the ref called it off because who needs to see it?

Guy at 2:00: That's about as much reason for a stoppage as you're ever likely to see...damn nice punch too...

    In summation:

With a guy who's a swarmer like Calzaghe, there's the potential for early stoppages. He hurts a guy, then goes berserk slapping him in the face. When you're rocked and are being swarmed like that, your instinct is to cover up because it seems like too many punches to counter against. And the ref looking on is gonna think you're hurt, because why are you shelling up against these little punches?

Regardless, Calzaghe's career had a few early stoppages, especially when he was fighting journeymen. Look at any champ and see if that's not the case for them as well. Refs protect these guys when possible because they make a living by fighting every few weeks, and seeing them get owned like that is just no fun.

 i was responding to a poster who said joe had a 128-2 amateur record. joe was a good fighter but there's hundreds of fighters in history who would be undefeated as well if they had fought the level of competition that the pride of wales had fought.

calzaghe's best win is vs hopkins and jermain taylor beat hopkins twice, 3 years before joe. i guess taylor should be ranked higher than calzaghe.
