The cries of Calzaghe being a slapper who never threw hard shots and just wanted to impress the judges with volume have grown following his retirement. I think anyone with a decent memory and pair of eyes should remember that throwing weak shots was part of his strategy: weak shots surrounding real power shots that often caught his opponents by surprise. This was effective and he tore up many faces in his career, even if he didn't floor everyone with incredible power.
