Hey dude its not funny to pick on people that has problems like that. I have a brother like that and trust me its not nothing to make fun of. The best thing to do is pray for him and him family because that stuff is the pure devil. Calzaghe backed up what he is talking he has the right to talk some.
Ridiculous. He could poke these guys if he had beaten them when they weren't ancient..... I dnt think anyone would care. But when his resume is as spotty as his, and his reputation for shying away from challenges...........to thump your chest like you are some kind of world beater......well, you can imagine how it can seem disingenuous.
Meh, circular argument. He did enough in his career to stand out as a great fighter who didn't have as solid a resume as people thought he should have. He becomes just like any other English fighter who doesn't have a huge following throughout their career in their inability to get American fighters in the ring. He beat whoever they put infront of him and did it in such a way that he got rated very highly by past and current boxers, he doesn't relaly give a **** what you think, he can thump his chest as a world beater - hence holding 4 title belts without ever losing.
I'm certain he doesn't care what I think. I'm also certain he doesn't care what you think..... "I'm not chasing after Roy Jones.Be honest,Roy is a good fighter and I don't want tough fights.I just want big money." - Joe Calzaghe ......or any boxing fan for that matter.
Tell me how that's different to Roy Jones refusing to fight Hopkins without a split in his favour? Or the current idiocy with Mayweather and Pacquaio? It's the fight sport, unfortunately it's a part of the game now.
Wanting favorable splits and jockeying for financial or physical advantage is part of the sport. Probably always has been. On the other hand,JC said he would rather not fight a guy because it would be a tough fight. By saying this himself, he legitimizes the suspicions of him shying away from challenges that he felt he might not be up to. With that goes all the talk of not wanting to leave Wales, Warren's claims that he couldn't get Joe to fly, the widepread belief that his opposition in general was sub par and hand picked, faking injuries to avoid tough fights, etc. These may not all be true, maybe none are, but it isn't too much of a stretch to believe when the man himself casts himself in such a light. I mean, jeez, he ended up fighting and ridiculing(RJJ had it coming) the same guy he said he wouldn't fight because he was too tough, then later on wouldn't fight because he was too shot. He then proceeds to fight him 3 years later and claims to be a legend killer. He killed a legend he admitted he was too tough to fight prime, but who he did fight after he himself admitted was shot?
Because Jones was the man and beat Hopkins. Calzaghe was not the man, and didn't want to fight for any purse. Joe has a VERY smart career, one of the smartest I have ever seen. He stayed FAR away from the truly great fighters until they were ready to be picked off. And even then, he waited for them to lose 2 or three times before taking them on. Then he jumped ship before he became one of them. It was a Smart career, not a great one. Keith
Uh...yeah, it happens frequently. Which is why I've read the term "Eurobum" many times on here. But, really, why involve all of Europe in the discussion anyway. This is between the Yanks and the Brits. Or not. I don't care, whatever. All silly.
Don't like Calzslappy myself, but how can you call him overrated, or say he gets too much credit? No American or Euro likes him, most of the Brits hate him, prolly over 95 percent of ESB hates him.
The thing that really annoys people about Joe Calzaghe is that there are so many people with egg on their faces, as they were for many years predicting him to lose this fight or that fight and now that he's retired undefeated they will never have the chance to gloat over a Calzaghe defeat and that leaves them very bitter indeed. And when people try to sweeten their bitterness and annoyance by (correctly)stating that both Jones and Hopkins were past their prime when easily beaten by JC they embarrass themselves by assuming that Calzaghe was still at his peak when in fact Calzaghe was also way past his prime;a prime reached around 2003 after the Mitchell fight.
