In Lenny McLean's autobiog he rips into Warren, that was over with-holding money too, or taking a big cut. He is really an unsavoury character with no redeeming features. At least Don King has good hair

Boxing is a business. Calzaghe, Hatton could fight in a ring and earn £10000 rather than £1000000.00. Frank puts on the show.
The business and promotion side is very important, Frank would invest lots of money in boxers and bring them along, building a good record and money in the bank. WBU, WBO shots. He makes champions and looks after his fighters because without them he would make no money. They are assets to Sports Network, so Frank is probably quite annoyed that he is missing out on a percentage of his best fighters biggest purses. Fighters who he has built up.
If they are out of contract, then Frank should let them go without fuss and hassle and legal fights. If a fighter is in contract then Frank is due is share unfortunately. It's complicated.

Frank Warren reminds me of some businessman from Eastenders. Always messing with something or another. I hope Calzaghe gets together with Hatton, Naz and whoever else Frank has screwed over for the last few decades and forces him out of the game all together. This is a great opportunity.

    Warren is a complete ****.

This was on the boil a long time ago but only started to come out publicly around the Hopkins fight. After the fight they had a press gathering in Calzaghe's hotel suite and Warren said that it had been a privilege working with Joe and if he ever wanted to go into the promotional side of things he'd welcome him as a partner even. Which shows that he knew full well some time ago what was on the cards. Calzaghe's non-commital response told you there was a battle coming up and the fact that Warren issued the offer in the first place shows how the powers of the promoters seem to be on the wane. Even if Joe is under contract then Warren has breached it by non-payment of Calzaghe's purse. Both sides have their heads screwed on and know the game though so it's a difficult one to work out

I think it is about time promoter's powers started to wane - it is the fighter flogging themselves in the gym and putting their life on the line in the ring. They should be entitled to as large a slice of the cake as they can reasonably obtain.

I don't have a problem with any sportsperson earning money, so long as the fans are being entertained without being ripped off.

I am sure nobody would have a problem with Joe Calzaghe earning £5m for a fight - but they would if Frank Warren also earned £3m say for doing jack ****. All this about taking risks is total bollocks - you could book any venue in the country for a Calzaghe fight and it would be full :deal

The Australian cricketers took action against their board with regard to their 'slice of the cake' as opposed to a set amount tied to nothing in particular. Warren is basically like a football manager, telling them what to do all the time as opposed to being their representative.

He wheels them out whenever his wife fancies a new motor.

But Calzgahe would never have had the opportunity to fight for the WBO title without Warren, he would have been an avoided fighter like Froch and others who go to 30 or 40-0 and are number 1 contender for years. It's real world business.

Warren probably uses his influence with the WBO to get the shots for his fighters. His % and contract hold on fighters is all part of the deal. Without the contract they don't get no shot. Why do you think people call it WBOgus and Warren Boxing Organisation?

What would you prefer money in the bank, good exposure, easy fights and a WBO title or poor money and and ass kicking against a really good fighter for peanuts away from home?

The truth nowadays is that marque fighters are leaving promoters like Warren and making big money. Which is good for them, but bad for the rest of the sport. Why do you think we have to pay Setanta for proper big fights, and Sky show friday fight night for the British titles.

As a spectator of boxing, I only usually watch Khan now, because it's on ITV. The rest I don't bother. Who do we blame for this? Sky? Ricky Hatton? Setanta?

Getting bored of Joe, but he has enough to still slay the mighty Warren and hope he does.

It could be said that the way Ricky Hatton's career has turned out has had a major effect on boxing, both here and abroad.

He is perhaps the pioneer for fighters being able to do as much as they please, which is fair enough. Promoters for me take a far too large a slice of the cake - the most important people in boxing are the fighters and fans - then trainers, nutritionists, cutmen, and finally promoters.

I don't think it will affect Enzo at all.

He is being gifted the WBO title again - and will make endless, meaningless defences as per his first reign.

I understand Bobby Gunn is interested in a rematch, because he deserves one. First round KO's don't prove anything :deal

So it'd be fair to say that Joe is no longer "the best fighter" Warren has ever promoted?

No - so that's Hatton, Calzaghe and Naz all ruled out.

    Erm.....

In boxing monthly he said he once promoted Guzman - i.e. he was a co-promoter on a show during which Guzman boxed.
