    From Setanta website:

Joe Calzaghe has reiterated his claim that his November 8 showdown with Roy Jones Jr., which will be shown exclusively Live on Setanta Sports, will 'probably' be his last.

Despite ongoing speculation that The Pride of Wales might agree to a bout with Kelly Pavlik next year, Calzaghe is once again intimating that his clash with Jones will be his farewell fight.

Indeed, whilst speaking at a Setanta Sports press conference in which it was confirmed that Madison Square Garden will be the venue for this 'super-fight', Calzaghe stated: "It’s fantastic to be on Setanta Sports again and fighting in such a massive fight, against Roy Jones Jr.
"It’s no secret that this will probably be my last fight, so what better way to go out than by fighting one of the best fighters of the past 25 years. And at Madison Square Garden, too, so it's fantastic.
”There’s just over 12 weeks to go now so I’ll start serious training from Monday on.
”So, I’m really looking forward to the fight. It’s going to be a tremendous night and I want to go out and make sure I fight a brilliant fight.
”I wasn’t that happy with my last fight, the win over Bernard Hopkins. Styles make fights that that clash didn’t make for a good fight.
”But Roy Jones doesn’t like to hold and I don’t like to hold – so I think that there’ll be fireworks.”
When pressed on his future by Setanta Sports presenter Paul Dempsey, Calzaghe added: "I'm pretty sure it will be my last fight.
"There are always question marks but as long as I go out and produce a performance and win this fight, well, then I'll feel like I've achieved everything I want to achieve in boxing.
"It's a mistake many fighters make: just fighting for the money. They eventually get beaten but how many fighters retire undefeated? Very, very few.
"To get out undefeated means more to me than money. It will be my last fight," he said, laughing.
And Calzaghe is extremely excited by the prospect of bowing out with a win over former pound-for-pound king Jones.
”To be honest, he’s one of my favourite ever fighters. He’s a tremendous fighter, a four-weight world champion. What he’s achieved is incredible," Calzaghe stated on Setanta Sports News.
”Obviously, he had a few defeats, against Tarver [twice] and Glen Johnson, but he came back, like all great fighters do and proved a lot of people wrong, including myself.
”He’s had three good wins, including an excellent win against Trinidad. So this is redemption for him and, believe me, he’s going to come into this fight with a tremendous will to win.
”So I have to match that and not get complacent, going in there and thinking I’m going to knock this guy out.”

What a load of old tampax. RJJ is so washed-up this fight shouldn't even have been sanctioned, and Joe is going to retire having never went to the USA and took on a young hungry top 10 p4p champion. He has had 2 great wins over good opposition in his career, and one split decision win with a poor performance v a 43-year-old man.

It's just not enough to match the talent and ability he had. Joe MUST fight Pavlik if Pavlik beats B-Hop, or his legacy will never be what it could have been.

I'm not wholly disagreeing with you cos Eubank, Hopkins and Roy Jones were/are old, what I disagree with is all this Calzaghe MUST fight Pavlik junk.....why?? cos he has Jermain Taylors number and beat up on Gary Lockett???

Does anyone seriously think that Calzaghe's last fight is going to be on foreign soil?

No, he'll bow out in Cardiff infront of his home fans.

    It'll be against Pavlik.

Calzaghe is just waiting to see how the RJJ fight goes.

If the RJJ fight had been set for the Millenium Stadium, that would have been different.

    But it's not.

A fight between two P4P fighters whose previous fights would have been set at a weight five pounds apart ALWAYS makes sense.

Pavlik himself has said he considers Calzaghe a bigger and more attractive fight than Abraham.

    True.

Although he might just fight Pavlik anyway.

I think Joe's holding his cards close to his chest - A smart move IMO.

He didn't look great against B'Hop (who does?) and he's going to use the RJJ as a measuring stick to see where he's at; if he wins and is happy that he's still got enough left, he'll have his last fight in Cardiff before hanging them up.

As for his opponent - I think he's going to wait and see what happens in the Pavlik V B'hop fight and possibly keeping and eye on the Tarver v Dawson fight as well. Not a bad situation to be in for an overrated 'slapper' is it?

Interesting article. Calzaghe spent several months calling Pavlik out. During the same time period he dissed Roy Jones, and as much as called him a has been. Now he says he wants to retire undefeated, so he is going to fight Roy Jones, and duck Pavlik.

RJJ is going to be a ****ing pain of a fight for Joe.

I think he'll win but he'll struggle to knock RJJ out so RJJ will take some rounds on speed and manouvering...

"At the moment I'm definitely going to retire," he told Setanta Sports News.
"As long as I win and I win in style then it will be my last fight."

"Roy Jones went through a bit of a tough time in his career but he's come back and had three great wins," said Calzaghe.

I'm 60/40 on deciding whether it will be his last fight or not. That undefeated record does apear to mean an awful lot to him though.

surely there's no gurantee that pavlik will beat Hopkins. What if Hopkins schools him? B-Hop v JC rematch?

But I think RJ will give Joe a hard time
