Great stuff ..Too bad it didn't happen in 2000 ..Would of been great to see them 2 at the top of their game ..The two best super midlleweights to ever lace them up in the ring ..Man what a fight that would of been .

There is video of Joe where he says it would take the crown jewels to fight RJJ. You guys have been in full rewrite since Ward/Kessler.

    Thanks

Some fights are too good to happen, I remember Tyson-Holyfield back in the early 1990's. I think Jones-Calzaghe would of been a competitive fight with Roy winning by ud

Some of those articles date back to 2000, it just goes to show that he did try to fight some of the top American fighters.

As I've said countless times, you can find video or print of Joe Calzaghe backing up pretty much any viewpoint you care to mention.

The guy's not exactly the sharpest tool, is fairly emotional and tends to just say whatever is in his head at the time, depending what mood he is in at the time. Frequently that contradicts completely what he said the previous day/week/month.

It wouldn't have been that great of a fight. Joe would have made for a much tougher defense, especially if he played basketball beforehand....But in the end, Jones would have trashed him.

Jones lost his killer instinct after the Benn McClellan fight, so it would have gone the distance imo.

lol at the Basketball comment as well

That's nice. He didn't try hard enough. It's all well and good digging up these old articles, but there's a reason why foreign fighters, legends like Roberto Duran and Trindad came to the US when they did. They knew that the best fighters in their division were from America and they knew they had to establish themselves there to do. So, Duran got to fight most of the best middleweights of his era...Calzaghe didn't really want it. He was content to sit on his throne in Wales and be the best in Europe.

You can make threads about this all day long, but Joe Calzaghe did NOT try to fight Roy Jones in the early 2000s. I'm not even interested in debating the point because I know that he did not. Ciao!

I've seen the video. Someone found it and started a thread about it with a link. He clearly tells the woman interviewer that it would take the crown jewels to get him to fight RJJ. His book? The one where he states that Jones is shot and he would never fight him? Believe what ya want. As I said, I've seen what Joe said with my own eyes.
