Calzaghe truly is awesome!

    I wish it did not take me so long to realize just how good Calzaghe is. I really wish he had been fighting bigger fights that would have had more US appeal throughout.

    It's unfortunate, but better late than ever. I was totally sold after his effort with Hopkins, and this just cemented it further. If he does retire, capping off your career with back-to-back wins against Hopkins and RJJ is like a storybook ending. Glad he finally got the recognition he's deserved. I'm just left wondering....what if? We had all known earlier?

    Anyway, I really hope Calzaghe gives Hopkins a rematch. I know I'm in the minority here, but I enjoyed that fight. Two fighters who adapt as well as these two always brings about outstanding tactical prowess.

    Nobody fought Calzaghe as competitively as Hopkins did, and some even feel Hopkins won that fight.

    Last farewell fight for Joe in Wales against B-Hops?

    Maybe the interest isn't there.

    Who could blame Calzaghe if he did retire? Certainly not me, but I'd still hope for the rematch.

    Anyway, if Joe does retire, get ready for Hopkins-Dawson.

    He beat Bernard, clearly.

    He should retire at this point.

    Even if he beat Dawson, legions on here would pooh-pooh the victory.

    If he really wants a last fight in Cardiff, he could fight Toney,

    No belts at stake.

    Open weight.

    I'm impressed with Calzaghe's talents and he's truly one of the best in the world but come on, he beat a very over the hill RJ. He would not have been doing that **** with RJ in his prime.

    Absolutely.

    Prime Roy would have tagged defenceless Calzaghe all night long with that showboating. I'm British, I picked Joe, I wanted Joe, but this was a sad night for Boxing in my opinion. Jones ain't what he was.

    As you know by my other thread, I agree with the idea that no matter what he does, some will never give him the credit.

    Before Lacey, Kessler, B-Hop and even to an extent this one, we had legions of fans saying the man was going to get beat. Then, when he pulls it out impressively, saying that the opponent was shot, not that good in the first place, etc.

    For the few give me fight in between, he was derrided.

    46-0 with wins over 9 other titlists is an outstanding career, and anyone who wants to argue is making themselves look bad.

    I don't like his style. I appreciate accurate power punching ala Marquez not arm flurries. The guy's obviously a really good fighter but he seems almost uncoordinated or not athletic. Glad he beat Jones though. The third fight with Tarver was one of the biggest wastes of money in my life.

    I thought the same thing before, now im not so sure.he totally dominated him and that has to make questions arise......Grant it Roy is not the Roy of old but in observation i have to say the style and pressure Joe puts on could make for an interesting fight even 10 years ago........:rasta

    I'm just impressed by Calzaghe's determination, confidence, and relentless nature in the ring.

    I'm not impressed because he beat RJJ, per se. I figured he would. Although, I always said, if RJJ could hurt him in the first 3 rounds, it might be interesting. When Roy caught him early, you could see he was visibly hurt--but not only that, he looked EXTREMELY PISSED OFF!

    I was impressed that he once again showed his adaptability and versatility inside the ring.

    RJJ was never able to capitalize on an opening after that, and then Calzaghe thoroughly dominated Jones.

    I just enjoyed watching him fight tonight since the newfound respect I got for him after beating Hopkins.

    Hopkins would still provide a tougher challenge for Joe than Dawson.

    But I suspect we will see Hopkins-Dawson next.

    Joe would do well against either fighter prime for prime, remember Joe is nearly 37 and past prime also.

    and when you say that do you realise that only a year ago Calzaghe had his greatest ever win, Jones was getting ktfo out five years ago. THIS WAS A TOTAL JOKE FIGHT THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPEND!

    **** Jones! He's been screwing boxing fans for years.

    In particular, ever since he was decked by Tarver where he no longer even really tries to win. Roy is still an extremely gifted and talented athlete--anyone can see that!

    Yes, Roy is NOT the same fighter he used to be, but more of that is MENTAL than PHYSICAL.

    Anyway, I am not convinced that prime Roy would have beaten Joe with ease. Sure, that will be the 'common wisdom' that prevails, but Calzaghe's style would ALWAYS give Jones problems.

    ALWAYS.
