On a different matter, if Calzaghe is to fight once more, who do you believe provides the best challenge?

    Hopkins? Dawson? Someone else?

That doesnt deflect from the fact that joe is nearly 37, roy was 39

im not arguing that rjj wasnt shot, he's way past his best......but just all this crap that calzaghe is somehow fighting guys way older than him....cos it isnt true on the whole

I am impressed with Calzaghe's raw talents after watching this fight and he is special, but if we are talking about PRIME RJ, fu*k no, RJ takes it. Probably by KO the way Calzaghe comes running in. Difference tonight was that he couldn't capitalize on this.

It's obvious that despite that fact that Joe is almost 37, his raw talents are still intact. Incredible hand speed, foot speed, and reflexes.

So what? None of that is relative to the fact that Roy Jones Jr is a shot fighter, and tonight should have never taken place. I didn't say in their respective primes Jones Jr would win every round, but if Calzaghe employed his tactic tonight of sticking out his chin, Jones would have most likely knocked him out. That's why it was painfully obvious this was a shot Jones, although his previous 4-5 fights had already cemented that theory. Like I said, I wanted Calzaghe to win, but it's so sad to see a fighter like Jones get humiliated in his old age. Bad call for Joe to do that.

I have a thread that no one responded to saying he should fight Toney at Catch weight. Keep the senior tour going.

Who the hell is Dawson anyway but another Kessler/Lacey. Calzaghe could go in there and whip ass on him all night and everyone will turn around and say: "Calzaghe beat another hype job. When is he going to fight..."

Call Toney and set up a catch weight match. It will be fun, and if the money was right, I have no dobut that Toney would do it.

    Is this a joke?

RJ's legs are completely shot and his cat like reflexes, which helped him so much, are gone.

I take it you are not interested in Calzaghe-Hopkins II?

    No, it's not a joke.

I conceded he is not in his physical prime. What I am saying is that his biggest issues in the ring started AFTER Tarver knocked him the **** out--and those issues are clearly MENTAL!

Watch round 5 of Jones-Tarver III, and tell me whether or not he was physically shot? He looked AMAZING THAT ROUND. And then he stopped trying.

Or are you going to seriously suggest he actually TRIED to win that fight?

Toney at a catchweight? What 210lbs? Calzaghe has to put on 35lbs to turn up on fight night to see Toney at 230lbs and the leanest he has been for years.
Maybe joe should fight valuev at a catchweight.

Sure I am. Hopkins is no joke, and the fact that his spirited loss to JC is wedged between wins over Tarver and Pavlik proves that despite his age, he is one of those rare fighters to have something like a second prime.

But to me, boxing is like a game of Risk: never re-conquer territory. What is in it for JC (apart from a ton of cash)? What does he stand to gain?

Like I said, after the Kessler fight I would never doubt Calzaghe again and I'm 2-0 since then in predictions. Granted, both Hopkins and Jones are older now but Joe still beat them without any real trouble. Yes, the Hopkins fight was close but Joe won it and was never hurt. In the last 2 years he cleaned out the supermiddleweight division and has added 2 HOFers to his resume. Not bad. Not bad at all.

In truth, I always watched Calzaghe fight and I always enjoyed watching him.

But he was never involved in a fight I cared too much about until Kessler. The Lacy fight was sensational, too, but I was never that sold on him. But even after the Kessler fight, I still figured Hopkins would be able to effectively counter him and beat him.

I really hope we get to see Hopkins fight Calzaghe again. I know I am in the minority here, but I want to see these two master craftsmen do battle again.
