He will box on, if he were going to retire why not jyst say so after the Roy Jones fight...? I think he is weighing up his options, he is earning more money now than he ever has before, I think we can expect a fight with Jermain Taylor or Glen Johnson around the time of the Dawson-Tarver rematch, then Calzaghe Dawson later ion in the year in the UK. 2009 will be his last year.
:rofl If all he is going to do is beat up on faded fighters and provide rip-off PPVs he should stay retired, no? Or do you enjoy watching **** like the Calzaghe-RJJ PPV? It's not about being American, it's about being a fight fan, and if he just wants to fight bs, meaningless fights and provide bs, meaningless PPVs he should stay retired.
Meaningless fights...? Hopkins was 2 fights ago! Kessler was 3 fights ago! The short memories of the calzaghe haters is laughable.
Who would have been meaningful fights and why did you rate those fighters as better than Hopkins at the time?
Hopkins was the best 175lb fighter out there, he was Ring light heavy champion and one of the best p4p in the world, it was a great matchup although the fight didnt live up to the expectation - that was mostly Hopkins' fault. Is there anybody out there now who doesnt have Bernard Hopkins reciding in their top 10 p4p, at the moment or even top 5?!!
I'll give you that it was about the best available at the time (although Glen Johnson would have been nice to see, or even Dawson at the time) but it proves what exactly? It was a very opportunistic choice. Calzaghe is very close to his prime, much more so than Hopkins who, although he worked Tarver and had a solid win over Winky, looked like crap consistently before then (let's not get rose-colored glasses just because he looked good against a green fighter who was tailor-made for him in Kelly Pavlik). Can you honestly tell me that when you watched any of B-Hop's fights prior to the Calzaghe fight you said 'Damn, Hopkins is looking GOOD in there?' Probably the last time was Taylor II, and even that wasn't a good performance. Basically it goes like this: Hopkins looked kind of unlucky in Taylor I, looked a little better in Taylor II, but also started the 'OK Bernard, time to hang 'em up' thoughts in my head, looked the better fighter by default in Tarver, as Antonio really didn't do anything at all in that fight (an opportunistic choice y Hopkins there) and he looked really old in the Winky fight. Glen Johnson and Chad Dawson were by far more live opponents, but Calzaghe made the opportunistic risk/reward choice and got a lucky decision (no matter who won would have gotten a lucky decision; it was close, but Lady Luck was smiling on Joe that night, just as she was smiling on Jermain Taylor in the second fight.)
what a ridiculoous post. Hopkins was and is considered one of the best p4p but your trying to say Glen Johnson wouldve been a better oponent, or unknown Chad Dawson?! - im sorry but you have just lost all credibility.
I said they were more live opponents. Can you deny this? From a risk/reward I acknowledged that Hopkins was the better opponent, but in no way was he the more live one.
Pavlik is 'green' but Dawson (and this would be before he fought Johnson or Tarver) would have been seen as a better win than Hopkins? Or Johnson, with wins over a shot Griffin, 'seven defeats in his last eight' Fred Moore and fatted up welterweight Hugo Pineda since losing to Clinton Woods? Have a word with yourself.
