The level of opposition slowed Calzaghe level of aggression down, it’s alright putting everything in to the shot against extremely limited opposition, but he’s not hitting British or European level fighters with shots like that and the opponent looking all over the place. Hand issues aggravated him obviously at some point, but Calzaghe style was based on timing, speed, angles good footwork and insane stamina, he had respectable power but even on the clips above we weren’t looking at a one punch knockout artist. The myth that Calzaghe was some kind of banger before his hand issues is exactly that a myth, he was a great fighter but let’s not paint him something he wasn’t. Fantastic fighter, probably my favourite. Pity he never got in to a big training fighters as he would have some good knowledge for the next generation,
The fact he had to adapt to a "slapping" style because of his hand problems and still achieve what he did in his career is incredible.
I popped this chap on ignore so he could have his meltdown in peace. A worthy ban, as was mine for goading Jim. Good to be back on the forum.
