This kind of hijacks the subject of the other thread on Jones v. Calzaghe, but IMO would be a lot more interesting as a matchup. Assuming that Toney came into the ring with no weight problems at 168 circa 1991-1993 fighting shape, how do you think he would fare against JC?

    Discuss.

Toney via decision 116-112 too slick and smart.

Guess you missed the part where the thead originator said, "Assuming that Toney came into the ring with no weight problems at 168 circa 1991-1993 fighting shape, how do you think he would fare against JC?"

50/50....No one can know for sure.
1993 version of James Toney went the distance against the likes of Glenn Thomas http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=4653&cat=boxer

    and Larry Prather
    http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=5305&cat=boxer

Would the likes of Prather & Thomas annihilate Calzaghe ?...How would Calzaghe do against such opponents ?....Who knows...

But as far as i'm concerned...no fight can ever be a 100% certitude victory for the favorite. Only a fool would believe such a thing. And i bet not a single one of you ****s actually believe what you're saying most of the time. If you would...You'd either be broke or multi millionaires....

Because RJJ is one of the most talented fighters ever. Hopkins faced the same situation. What does that really prove?

Not "fighter". "Boxer". There's a huge difference. Also , as amazing as RJJ was , he still got tkoed by the overrated Tarver.

Toney can be outworked, and Calzaghe can be countered. Ulimately I think Toney has the power in his counterpunches to may Joe hesitate to be so trigger happy. Close fight but I see 7-5, possibly 8-4 Toney.

:yep Toney vs. Calzaghe would be a lot like Toney vs. Jones.

    Calzaghe comfortably.
Toney cannot stop Calzaghe, and has no way of outpointing him.

This match-up doesn't even justify the need for an analysis beyond that.

Well, i think a prime RJJ dominates Calzaghe and maybe even KO him so what does that really prove?

Thats exactly what I'm thinking. Toney may not be a power puncher really, but when he wants to hurt a guy he really can. Toney is also a great body puncher on the inside and I don't think Calzaghe takes body punches well.

Would favour Calzaghe narrowly. I dont think JC is any more talented just that he's a horrible style for Toney. Quicker hands, on his feet with a constant workrate.
Also brace your self for a couple of JC haters who wont actually consider the question when the alternative is to fill up these forums with pointless spam.
    Everyone knows who they are.
