The day after he beats Dawson (who will be then proclaimed as never that good in the first place) there will be "Calzaghe is ducking Tavoris Cloud" threads.

Has to be Dawson, he has earned his shot and the haters would be clutching at straws trying to revise that one should JC win.

Beating Adamek(looking increasingly better), Johnson and Tarver....he's done enough to merit a fight with Joe.

It would draw in Cardiff, thats for sure.

But the point remains if Joe does beat Dawson, everyone will still say he was not what people made him out to be.

Dawson is not proven, He needs to fight in europe and prove himself and win a world title over here but he won't.
    He just isn't good enough.

It always surprises me why this is never said, yet European boxers are constantly criticised for never fighting in the States!

calzaghe dont really need the fight and dawson is still not a big enough name.
but.....the fans want to see a final fight in cardiff and dawson is the only man left standing so "LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE".

I think Calzaghe/Dawson is a great matchup and should happen ASAP. And I think Jermaine Taylor also belongs in the discussion. He's 168 I know, but he's 7 lbs. away from these cats, and I'm telling you- even though Jeff Lacy is a punching bag (that happens to punch back from time to time) Jermaine was doing stuff in thier last fight that had nothing to do with Lacy's limitations... He may not beat either of these guys, but Taylor belongs in the discussion, as he's a realistic and legitimate opponent for both of them.

    IMO,

    Thats a bull**** sentiment.

I think you are confusing Jeff Lacy with Chad Dawson.

Chad is the real deal and has proven it. Just because he had a close fight with Glen Johnson, whom no one has beaten decisively in over 10 yrs, doesn't mean he can't beat Joe.

Don't get touchy, I was only making a light hearted point. Trust me though, if Calzaghe beats Dawson, Dawsons stock will fall through the floor with Calzaghe haters on ESB and they will start with Tavoris Cloud, a Hopkins rematch, Adamek or God knows what else.

It depends, if Chad lost, how he lost.

If its a close fight, no harm in that. A blow out would not be good, obviously.

Your last comment about all the guys the ESB community would want Joe to face next is just natural. Thats what happens when a fighter wins, the public clamours for the next big challenge. Doesn't that make sense?

I find the extent it goes on ridiculous (not Calzaghe, just in general). If a fighter doesn't have 4 defenses a year against the exact, right opponents selected by a poster then he's ducking someone. Its not how boxing works, its one thing speculating on future opponents but calling fighters "duckers" and "cowards" because he doesn't fight the guy you want, when you want is insane.

Now I think we are on the same line of thinking.

    I completely agree.

I do wish fighters fought more often but they do whats best for themselves, their family and their career/legacy. It's the same thing we would do. Also, I can't stand when guys say fighter A is ducking fighter B. These guys are warriors, not computer gangsters like alot of us.

    Cheers Gaz.
