1NC & two UD's. So no more than JC fought Veit really. Plus Hopkins didn't blow him away in one round the first time like Joe. Sidetracking before this turns into a row (lifes too short, plus I think TFFP knows me well enough by now to see when I'm kidding **mwah**) has anyone seen the first Hopkins Allen fight? It was a really good, even contest, then Mills Lane, in one of the most comical moments in boxing manages to push Nard out the ring!:scaredas: Hopkins was clearly ****ed but was so distrustful of "the system" he wanted to continue because he thought he'd lose his IBF title. Only after being assured he wouldn't did he accept the fight was over. Amazing.:nut
This fight proves boxers often don't know **** about their own sport. Calzaghe is dumb for thinking this fight is better than Pavlik. This is the sort of fight that proves fighters need promoters cos often promoting themself, they don't know what the **** they are doing.
I'm not sure I agree with you there. Pavlik has done well but is being elevated above his actual achievements simply because he is exciting to watch. If you break it down, it's not like he has a deep resume & style wise I wouldn't say he matches up that well against Joe. If he was to beat him people would simply say he was an unproven, one dimensional fighter. Yes maybe it would capture more imaginations but would it make more money? Probably not, and seeing as I think both fights would end with a Joe UD does the opponent really matter? We all know this is a pension fight for Joe.
Pension fight? That was supposed to be the last one. Before the fight a lot of hardened Calzaghe fans would have rather seen him face a live opponent like Dawson for example, then last legs 43 yr old Hopkins. Popkins was supposed to be Joe's big money pension fight. Joe is supposed to be making up for lost time, making the telling fights, late on in his career: he gave us Lacy, Kessler... err... 43 yr old Hopkins... and that was your lot. I think he beats Pavlik, but it would make a more exiting fight, then RJJ. The way he has dropped the idea like a stone does give me doubts that he would win comfortably though. I can't help but think Joe's seen something in Pavlik he doesn't like. I just watched the start of Jones V Tito again and Jones threw so few punches in the first round it was shocking. Unless RJJ proves some sort of stylistic nightmare, Joe just outworks him and wins by UD, easily. For an elite fighter who's not far from his prime (if he's not still actually in his prime; debatable), this fights a crap match up and a bit of a joke.
